    Top tip. Put the new fluid near the radiator or in the sun for a while to warm it up prior to filling. It speeds things up a little while you're waiting for the transmission temperature to get up to specification after the initial fill.

    Front lowers went on me as well. Assumed it was the ball joint but it’s the classic rear bush. Serves me right for cheating out on the cheapest lca’s I could find. 20 months and 15k miles :(

    I think the spare tyre warning goes away at startup, and the 4 driven wheels remains with a warning. Both come on every time you start. At least that’s what I remember. Could be very wrong though.

    Sounds like injector noise to me. My v6 sounds similar. If you’re really concerned get an automotive stethoscope and narrow it down. But don’t discount an exhaust leak at the manifold. Especially with the mileage.

    I was just asking as I’d read an article about a modded golf and they got into the whole carb thing about approved reflashes etc. I’m 50:50 about it at the moment. More is always nice though.

    I had this with an E39 M5, complementary top off was oil in the brake master cylinder reservoir. Took a while to show up. Then a gradual loss of power and the classic brake smell. Pulled off the motorway and the front rotors were a beautiful shade of blue and smoking. I feel your pain.

    You could also tape the phone to a stick and gingerly hang it in there while you get some video to see if there’s a wobble. But if it’s relatively easy to have the pulley off and reinstall then I’d go straight for that and not waste your time.

    “But it also may be faster to reseat the pulley, rather than try to balance,align, and move things out of the way so the laser has a clean sightline.” That’s what I’d try next. Remove the pulley, have a quick clean of the mating surfaces and reinstall.

    Is there any chance that the new pump is slightly different to the old one? Perhaps the part has been superseded and the pulley is a slightly different offset?

    That’s crazy, there’s definitely some misalignment. Was the ps pump a LR part? You’ll be the fastest belt changer in the west when this is done.

    I’m assuming that you’ve thought of the silly stuff like triple checking the belt run round the various components. It’s a tortuous run. If it jumps off each time then either the run is incorrect. The belt is too long if there’s some misalignment or damage to the pulleys and idler wheels...

    Get some ply and cut it to size. Couple of batons in the inside to brace and you’ll be good. Assuming it’s dry where you are. Treat it like a commercial Disco 4. Sorry to hear that you were subject to some ass though
