    DIY Oil Change for LR4

My latest Blackstone labs report below. Note that the first report shown (2017) was based on the last time I had put on the OEM Castrol. The last three are based on using Mobil1 EP 5W-20.

LR4s out there holding their value maybe more than just quite well

We ordered ours new for ~$60k. Considering the low mileage (45k) and that it's a late 2013 HSE LUX with the HD pgk (and Black Design pkg or whatever that was called) that has never been offroad and is meticulously maintained, I'm pretty sure I could get somewhere around half of what I paid if...

LR4s out there holding their value maybe more than just quite well

I wonder when the LR4 will be seen as just too old to bother with by those who want to daily drive one and looked at instead as a semi-collectible for examples well cared for with low miles. At that point, good samples may be even more rare than usual given that at this point, so many years...

I call BS on those Carvana photos. Those cars are too colorful. If they were realistic, all those cars would be a sea of grey, silver, and white. ;-)

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

Knowing nothing about these pipes (new or old) I can only tell you that from the mechanical engineering perspective, sometimes what you need is a flimsier more flexible part so that when cyclic loads are applied, the part sees less stress and fatigue is less of a factor. Or, it could just be...

Wrapping, Rhino lining or swapping fender flares for LR3 non painted?

Out of those options, I'd go with LR3 parts.

AC Compressor replaced @ 115k Miles

LOL. I can't imagine air-cooled 911's blowing ice-cold air. But working on 911's is tricky. I've only had a 997.1TT and didn't do anything too complex while I had it (belt, fuel filter, oil changes, etc.) and that wasn't awful, but still a relative PITA compare to "normal" cars.

    Signing off

Best of luck with the new Defender! And thanks for daring to drive your LR4. In addition to your contributions, the fact that your LR4 has been largely trouble-free after so many miles speaks to the potential of these vehicles with proper care. Your LR4 has been a great case study.

Big LR4 issue, cut losses and sell vs fix?

No doubt. But one should not be surprised by this. We ordered ours knowing we would drive it under 10k miles per year. As it turns out, we are averaging under 6.5k miles/year after 7 years. Umberto puts a ton of miles on his, but he knew he would and I'm sure he was fine with that calculation...

    Low coolant warning

https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/low-coolant-no-leak.30826/ I'm now approaching 2 years and over 10k miles since that happened with no drop in coolant at all and no visual indication of one either. My guess is that there was a tiny amount of seepage and somehow it plugged itself. I'll be...

    Another Defender hint?

I seriously considered vinyl-wrapping the LR4 in metallic burnt orange when we first got it. I always liked this color (and even my wife would have gone along with it):

    Another Defender hint?

Nobody buys fun colors anymore. Even sportscars are all black, silver,, white, or some shade of gray. Yes, my LR4 is Corris gray, but I wanted the metallic red color Umberto has and my wife vetoed it. I did order my M3 in metallic reddish-orange. My wife's Mini was laser blue.

Just hit 49,000 miles - extended warranty or roll dice?

My comment was not about dealers offering extended warranties. I’m sure they are happy to sell you 3rd party warranties. My comment was regarding the availability of official, LR factory-backed warranty similar to CPO.

Just hit 49,000 miles - extended warranty or roll dice?

I have no skin in the game as my LR4 is 7yo and I never got an extended warranty, but I recall from years ago that there was no way to buy the LR extended warranty and that the only way to get the real thing was through CPO. Am I not recalling things correctly or did things change?

    Does this 5.0 sound healthy?

Tangentially echoing what Paul said above, the early LR4's are now in that zone where they could be traded because they started to give too many headaches and/or owner was aware of big repair, or because it's been long enough and it's time to move on even though there is not much wrong with it...

LR4 Newbie - We have problems!

Good to hear it was only that. And you did the right thing tackling the pipes. My LR4 is perfect and has low miles (43k), but I will probably tackle the cooling system next Fall preemptively.

Big LR4 issue, cut losses and sell vs fix?

LOL Octane matters, yes. Also one road trip (or a few) worth of generic fuel won't do a thing. But 100k miles of it? Who knows? Not worth the chance, IMO.

Big LR4 issue, cut losses and sell vs fix?

A few comments: -They all have the required stuff, sure. But they don't all have the same stuff. -I've had cars and still have a car that is not DI and it was bought used with 80k+ miles. -In the Boston suburbs, most gas stations near us/on our way to places are Mobil/Shell/Sunoco/etc. I'd have...
