    Voyager Rack Ladder Nightmare

I have the OEM ladder. I have to say, for me, it's mostly for looks. I find that standing on the tires works best for washing loading cargo box, etc. That said, I like having the structure. It's worked well as a grab handle on icy surfaces, additional balance, a way to secure things externally...

Anyone know a reasonable dealer for timing chains 2011 LR4?

 $9500! I thought dealers charged $5-6k. Sorry, I'm in the Boston area but luckily have not had to have any (maintenance) work I couldn't handle myself.

    Bunch of error codes. Alternator?

Thx. I was thinking the same. And yeah, I'd have an alternator ready to go with that age + mileage. Maybe its presence will bring Karma and keep your current alternator good for another 5 years. :D

    Bunch of error codes. Alternator?

I've never had alternator issues until >120K miles and/or >10 years. I'll be doing preventive cooling system work this fall at 8 years and <50k miles. Is it insane to consider an alternator replacement that early "while I'm there"?

LR4 not garaged - should it be covered?

    Agreed.

    Oil leak?

I've read here that the valve cover gasket can leak. I'd start there.

    Voyager Rack Ladder Nightmare

I mentioned this before but my experience with their steps/slides was awful. They would not stand behind their product (besides offering a similarly bad paint job with no offer to pick up the massive shipping charge) and I ended up removing them and effectively throwing them away. I had the area...

LR4 not garaged - should it be covered?

I prefer that my cars be covered. I don't get people who have garages but they use them as storage and have the car live outside. If you cannot garage it, covering it is a good idea but I have grown to dislike car covers that are used "frequently." I bought a custom-fitted, high-quality car...

    Feels Like LR4 is Braking

If you suspect the transmission is the culprit, put it in sport mode and select a specific gear (start at top gear working your way down) and try the gas and letting go of the gas. You should be able to isolate the issue quickly of that is what it is.

    HD vs non-HD package LR4

Same here. I'm frankly starting to get worried about what I'd get for book value vs. what my ('13 LUX HD pkg) LR4 is actually worth given condition and mileage (45k). There is probably a pretty big gap there if it were totaled.

Apparently my LR4 is really upset about it's upcoming roommate

Every car I've owned (or my immediate family) at that mileage level has had the alternator go between 120-150k miles.

    That's crazy! Good luck!

    Head gaskets?

Perhaps I'm getting the wrong impression here, but I am getting the sense that you are a little too willing to throw in a lot of labor and expensive parts before diagnosing if it's something as big as a head gasket job that is needed. And if you find that it is, there is no guarantee that a new...

Another LR4 Saved from Coolant Death

I've had that thought all along, which is why I am doing it this fall at 8 years despite the <50k miles.

Another LR4 Saved from Coolant Death

I very much agree. We make a big deal about the chain problem, but other than the cost, unless you know nothing about it and don't pay attention to your car, it's unlikely to kill the engine. The pipe situation, on the other hand, is so damn insidious.

Engine takes forever to warm up

Awesome! 5 minutes is more like it.

Another LR4 Saved from Coolant Death

I'm planning on doing mine this fall when I'll be at 8 years and 50k miles. I had that weird low coolant situation over 2 years ago and nothing since, so I hope it will be fine until then.

    What oil are you using?

Same. 3+ years now. No issues. I post my oil analysis reports here.

Is the location of the plate in the rear of the LR4 legal in CO?

OK, the thread title is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I happened to run into the article below and noticed the following line: http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/70/7008.asp Colorado law specifically requires that the permanent plate be located no less than a foot from the ground "at the...

In need of the most random part ever. Any ideas?

This is of no help at all, but anytime I come across a situation like that all I can think of is "I bet there is someone somewhere holding that part in their hand thinking: It's a shame to throw this out, but who could ever need this?" Actually, I mostly feel the other way when holding something...

    Add 3rd Row Seating to LR4 2010

When ordering my car I do recall that HSE added the 3rd row. Naturally, HSE LUX had it as well. I just don't think people would custom-order their LR4 in the very base trim, and dealers (who order nearly all the LR4's) probably wouldn't either.

Key battery / e-brake warning oddity

I just wanted to report a weird incident in case others come across it. I hope it's nothing. As you probably know, we don't drive our LR4 often (typically 5-7k miles per year), and now it's just once or twice a week since COVID hit and on pace for ~3k miles this year. Some months ago, I got a...

2016 LR4 w/32k miles - replace all brakes at same time?

You should never work on brakes by corner when it comes to discs or pads (wear items). Always work by axle (both front, both rear, or all 4). The only exception might be if you are trying to correct something that went awry in a very recent brake job - say within the last couple of thousand...

    LR4 V8 skipped time finally at 245k

I love mine as well. Very comfortable and quiet on the highway. Very happy with them.
