    DIY Oil Change for LR4

I may have mentioned this before somewhere here, but the filter housing design is such that the O-ring is making a radial seal against the housing. Add to that the fact that it is a fine thread, and as long as the gap is gone, you are pretty much good to go. You certainly don't want it to back...

    LR4 brakes soft/hard

You need to start by giving the brakes a good brake fluid flush. Very important. In the process, inspect or have the lines inspected. Start there.

    Snapped crankshaft bolt

What a story! Glad it was all sorted out in the end and that the car works well!

    Normal or chain noise?

Seems normal to me and my 2013 has only 45k miles with meticulous maintenance.

    Locker behavior questions

I'll start mentioning that when I read the thread title I thought it would be a rant about old naked people at the gym locker room. Anyway, I am far from an expert on this, but I will say that the locking rear diff comes on far more often than you'd think. Accelerate hard from a stop...

    Intro! Firenze in HD

Mine came from the factory as part of the package on my 2013. Maybe that wasn't the case for 2012's? Was the black design pkg even an option then? https://www.torquenews.com/1084/2013-land-rover-lr4-gets-striking-black-design-packs To finish out the package treatment, a satin black finish is...

    Intro! Firenze in HD

Love it! That's exactly what I wanted but my wife vetoed it, so we settled for Corris Grey. If it has a factory black package, what happened to the load rails on the roof?

    A Fork In The Road

To echo others' points, congrats. That's a life well-lived for any vehicle, especially a LR. It would benefit us all if you could mention the cliff notes of the vehicle's service an repair history, particularly for items like timing chain/tensioner, LCA's, and cooling system-related items.

Coolant leak on my 2012 LR4

    LOL That's a steep price!

Another LR4 Saved from Coolant Death

I'm at 46k miles, so a full cooling system refurbishing is in order this fall. I'll be at around 8 years and 50k miles then. Hopefully no issues until I get around to it then.

    Map missing from Navigation

Yes. Try that. Once, many years ago My LR screen went dead. I restarted and have never had an issue since. On a somewhat related note, all the highway exits in MA are being renamed and the old (2012?) map will become a lot less useful. Has anyone found a way round the ludicrous LR map update...

    LR4 Mileage Poll

Sounds like you should be good for a while. Maybe LCA's could come due, but other than that, that's about all that goes wrong with it.

    LR4 Mileage Poll

I hate that so much. Drivers here do suck. Too few who drive spiritedly but respectfully. Fast drivers here are just lunatics or clueless. But I have to say, Montreal drivers are worse.

    LR4 Mileage Poll

Worthy of an update. We are at ~45k miles on our July 2013 production LR4. Knock on wood, no issues at all in the last three years, but also only 15k miles and good maintenance.

    Front Wheel Bearings - Question

Unless they are torqued to yield, or have built-in thread-locker, one should be able to reuse them. As for the torque value, the threads clearly have not changed, so unless the surface area of the built-in washer is smaller, the torque should not have changed. But maybe they have realized they...

    Voyager Rack Ladder Nightmare

Beware of SS. SS is great on its own, but it is at the other end of the galvanic table. The instant the the coated steel is exposed (if it happens), it will corrode incredibly quickly in contact with SS. Of course, ideally what you want is aluminum.

Low mile year, should I still get annual oil change? (out of warranty)

This year, thanks in part to COVID, I am likely to be at under 4k miles at the 12-month mark. I'm still planning on changing the oil then.

I could swear one of our regulars had either the shaft or the rack replaced.

    2012 headlamp lens replacements

I had good luck restoring the pretty beat up lamps in my Miata. Proactively, I bought film protection for the LR4 headlamps and fog lights years ago. They have worked well. I recommend them once you restore the lamps.

Long term plan for the LR4

With the acquisition of a new GTI (which will replace my Miata - a bad commuter car) the LR4 will now officially be used only for: -Family road trips (1-2k miles per year) -Towing or carrying bulky items or lots of cargo -Ferrying >5 people or our family + our Bernese Mtn dog -Winter storms -...

    Tax return plans?

I like to owe the IRS just a little bit. I submit my return ASAP and send the payment 4/15. Sometimes I do get a refund, but I don't consider it free money to spend on "whatever." That's just me.

Low mile year, should I still get annual oil change? (out of warranty)

4.5k miles is not THAT low - especially with 1k of towing. Many here regularly change the oil at around 5k miles regardless. I change mine yearly and I've had one year with 3.5k miles. If you had said under 2k miles, I'd say maybe consider skipping. The bigger question is, if you were to...

Oil Filter top will not come off

I think you need to prepare yourself to have to buy a new cover and sacrificially remove the current one. There are many ways to do that. The way these covers seal is not in axial compression, but rather radial compression. The tightening torque is purely to prevent it from backing off and not...
