    "Debadged" Hood / Bonnet...

I think the lettering on the hood is iconic and would not remove it. I'm annoyed that the black package only says LR4 in the back. Ideally I'd put DISCOVERY on the left and HSE V8 on the right. I wonder if they sell those in gloss black.

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

Additive manufacturing (aka 3D printing) in metal or composites is great but still in its infancy, though progressing rapidly. There are great new technologies out there though most rely on some kind of sintering. Ultimately, they are still very expensive. If it were a tiny part, sure. But that...

    Water pump. FAIL

Agreed on both counts. Flush the hell out of the system and the LR factory coolant is not expensive enough to take the chance IMO.

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

I think a way to go about it could be to hire out a quality 3D scan of the part. We can then get a quality 3D print, have the surface fine-blasted to get a high quality surface finish and then make a low run (life only good for a few thousand) mold tool and get it molded form a better material...

    Detailed photos would be awesome.

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

It would be great to build a database of the failed pipes to ascertain if there is an inherent weak point.

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

Absolutely. But cost is usually not a concern for those guys. ;-) I'm tempted to buy a part since I'll probably need one eventually anyway and look at the design in detail.

The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

There are plastics that can withstand harsh environments. Maybe they need to be fiberglass reinforced, or be a more expensive material. Plastics can have wildly different material properties. They can also have very different costs - not just of the material, but for the tooling and or process...

2011 LR4 Hood Latch Cable Broken

Never dealt with this, but purely from a mechanical standpoint, if you feel the usual resistance but there is no pop, the cable has either stretched or something has gotten loose the the point the lever is not offering enough travel on the cable for the latch to pop. I'd disassemble the latch...

    No parking brake, no faults

That’s what I would check. See that it gets power and then see if the switch itself is the issue by bypassing it.

    2011 LR4 Transmission TCM failure

Maybe this is too simplistic, but can you not find a junk/used transmission that still has a good switch and cannibalize the switch?

    Plastic in wheel well

Doesn't look right. I'd remove it, personally. Was the vehicle ever repainted or in an accident that required body work?

Clunk when accelerating from roll - solved

Great news and good info. I need to service all fluids this fall (6 years and ~40k miles).

    LR4 Low Compression

Sorry to hear about this. I imagine these cars are actually worth quite a bit in parts. I'd investigate that possibility. Out of curiosity, and because I think it will help all of us, what was the maintenance history of your LR4?

Wow. Yeah, that seems pretty ridiculous.

Thoughts and experiences from recent road trip

lol Not mine! I love it still. Some goofy things irk me about it, but in December it will take the cake for the car I've had the longest. I took delivery on 9/29/13. No plans in the horizon to sell it. Here it is personally detailed, just days before our trip.

    Went to use hitch...surprise!

I know the OEM hitch is expensive, but it's a great, easy to use design and LR4 chassis is pre-built to accept it. I love it. I found it new for around $400 soon after I bought my LR4. It's a very elegant, strong, clean solution.

Thoughts and experiences from recent road trip

We've discussed these separately but frankly, I do not feel like digging up and resurrecting all those threads. Brief reminder about my LR4: August 2013 HSE LUX, HD pkg, 37k miles. We drove up to Acadia. Total of about 800 miles driven. Awesome trip. Love it up there. 1) I still love the...

Rear brake caliper slider pins loose?

A brake servicing kit usually comes with replacement screws with thread locking paste pre-applied. If being re-used (not recommended), one ought to apply new thread locking compound. That said, I've re-used bolts with no new Loctite while helping others with their brakes and have never heard of...

    Undercarriage Maintenance - Tips

Seems great. I still rather stick to rust reformer for directly applying to rust, but a coat of this stuff once the reformer dries seems like a good move. This can also be applied on all sorts of other surfaces, so I think I'll try it, but I'll stay off cosmetic surfaces for now.

    Undercarriage Maintenance - Tips

I hit rusty areas rust reformer spray every time I swap tires. It's black and chemically treats the rust. After a first couple of years of surprising amounts of surface rust it's been under control.

    2011 LR4 - Parking Brake Won't Engage

I don't use it every time, but it is used frequently enough. Maybe once a week given that we don't drive the car every day.
