    LR4 Brakes and Rotors

I bought OEM rotors, pads, and sensors form Atlantic British about 3 years ago for $700-800. Any competent mechanic should not need more than 2 hours. Maybe 3 hours tops. I can see a quality independent mechanic charging maybe $500 in labor for all four corners, but it should not be more than that.

Change out differential and transfer case fluids

Update. I'm fairly disappointed with this guy at Atlantic British. He seemed to not care at all that the kit has the wrong hardware. Despite implying he would contact the tech group to resolve the issue, nothing happened. I told him the specific parts that seem to be wrong via the photo on...

    Jacking Options

I just bought this: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009MZIVA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 after I had a bad experience changing a flat with factory emergency jack. I have not even checked if that goes high enough (probably not), but I learned my lesson and carry pieces...

    LR4 5.0 Antifreeze

I would use OEM Land Rover antifreeze. It's not horribly expensive.

    Alternator

Agreed. I think LR got lazy and dropped in the engine untouched. Jeep always puts the alternator on top.

All Weather or Snow Tires ?

The biggest factor in tire degradation is far and away sunlight. As long as tires are in the garage and loaded so they don't develop a flat spot, they should be good for a long time. I will putting in the dedicated Hakka winter tires for the 7th season this weekend. They look like the day I got...

What tools should i buy to work on my LR4 at home?

I actually have not done it on this vehicle. It might be time-consuming and difficult in terms of getting access.

What tools should i buy to work on my LR4 at home?

Oof, that will be a long answer. I'd start with: 1) a good set (6-point) metric sockets 2) high tooth number ratchets in 1/2, 3/8 inch at least 3) large set of metric combination wrenches 4) panel removal tools 5) Quality torque wrenches in 1/2" and 3/8" (having both helps both for size and...

    Alternator

Well, I'd take the dealer at its word that leaking oil cased the alternator failure. I can't imagine them making that up. The bigger question is why was oil leaking out of the oil filter cap? Is the cap cracked? Was it improperly screwed on? I cannot think of another reason for it to leak. Who...

Change out differential and transfer case fluids

I forgot to add that the service above was done at 38,878 miles. No off-roading and not much towing except for a 300-mile round trip towing a (U-haul car trailer with a car on it), but it is a Boston-area LR4, so it sees plenty of snow. Fluids look pretty dark. We'll see about the front diff...

Change out differential and transfer case fluids

OK, I'm doing the fluid changes for the diffs and transfer case. First, transfer case: First thing I noticed is that the drain/fill plugs they sent do not match and I could not use them. I had to re-use the old ones. Not happy about that at all. Beyond that, all was well besides the fact...

Belt and spark plugs at 7 years? Other comments on maintenance

Just contact Blackstone labs and they will mail you the kit for free. It’s a black plastic container with a pre-paid mail label. Inside is a smaller container that you fill with oil and you fill out a small form with vehicle and service info and you put it all inside and mail it. It’s pretty...

Belt and spark plugs at 7 years? Other comments on maintenance

good to know. I may push it to 8 years then. Thanks! As for the oil, not planning in draining it that way yearly, but if I do it again a fe years form now, I’ll k ow what to expect!

Oil looked no different than usual. I'll be sending it for analysis again this year to Blackstone.

No kidding. I must have changed the oil on 20+ different cars and I've never seen something like this.

Belt and spark plugs at 7 years? Other comments on maintenance

I don't have it handy, but last night I was reading the service manual and saw the recommended interval for plugs and belt is 7 years (and some mileage over 100k which does not apply to me as I am at just under 39k miles). Have you guys followed that? We don't often talk about belts and plugs...

    Share your most expensive repairs

Nothing more to add except perhaps the electronic parking brake. I don't believe it's terribly common but when it happens it appears to be a PITA to fix a big $$$ due to labor (time). I used to use my e-brake all the time but now I've been sacred in to occasional use. Also, at high mileage...

13 LR4 5.0 coolant low but no sign of leaks

See my thread. Similar case. https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/low-coolant-no-leak.30826/ Still no signs of leaks. Still no drop in coolant level. It has been nearly a year and ~6k miles.

Change out differential and transfer case fluids

Thanks! I think I will wait two more years to do the transmission work. I got my diff/locker kit last night as well as new air filters (since I have never changed them).

Change out differential and transfer case fluids

I have considered waiting two more years until 50-55k miles. Maybe I should do that and just do the t-case & diff fluids for now.

Change out differential and transfer case fluids

That would be great if you don't mind. Also, I know this is t-case & diff thread, but should I change the mechatronic sleeve and valve body sleeves? My car shifts fine and has less than 40k miles, so I am thinking no.

Change out differential and transfer case fluids

I have the HD pkg with e-locking diff, so I think I have the right one linked. On the kit, It's an additional $80 for the OEM one. I wonder if I should just pay it.

Well, I think it's time. I'm just past 6 years and at nearly 39k miles. I'm placing an order for the kit above from roverparts. This is still the right collection of item, correct? It seems lo list for $197.95 now, so I guess the price went down a bit. I also plan on changing the transmission...
