    That's great!

2013 LR4 engine noise from back, not timing chain

Great to hear! I hope it's the least painful outcome. Regardless, keep us posted of what the issue was as it seems to be a less common condition.

This thread makes me sad. I still hope the low miles will allow us to keep ours indefinitely.

    Oil change and 64K service

There are plenty of discussion on oil types and service/maintenance. Replying here would would do a disservice given all the info that is already in this forum. I think it would be preferable to continue those threads than to start another one and risk segmenting relevant information...

Dead Battery? Or its just damn cold. 6 F

No doubt the cold temps will magnify battery issues, but you are likely taking a chance with a battery that misbehaved on cold temps already. My OEM battery lasted me nearly 5 years never giving me any issues, but I still changed it as a preventative move at the time. I do garage my LR4 and my...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

My latest Blackstone Labs report below: Note that the first report shown was based on the last time I had put on the OEM Castrol. The last two are based on using Mobil1 EP 5W-20.

    Low coolant. No leak?

I’m sure I’ll eventually have to do the same, but I’m still surprised by how slowly this is developing.

    Hard Choices

The new JL is pretty nice. What amazes me is that the older JK's are still worth a lot for how old they are. I thought that with the Pentastar engine in 2012(?) the early ones would lose value. Nope. Surely the all-new JL would make values of JK's plummet. Nope. It's crazy. Reliability isn't...

    Low coolant. No leak?

Yet another update: Checked the coolant reservoir last week before heading up to Montreal again and decided to top off to the upper limit. That was maybe 1/2 cup. Just came back from a 700 mile round trip and a total of 7k miles since the incident a year ago and it has lost nothing since the...

    LR4 Extended Warranty

You seem to put few miles on your LR4. I also was putting ~7500 miles/year on mine for the first 3 years. Now I am at 6.3 years and just cracked 40k miles on my late 2013. I did not buy extended warranty and have not had any issues. The big question is what is the length of the warranty and to...

Crankshaft Sensor or Timing Chain or ?

That's great to hear. I agree that for the work done on a vehicle like this, that is not so bad.

    Dying Electrical?

Collective wisdom on this board is that the LR4 with a low battery can be the cause of all sorts of weird electrical malfunction manifestations. Unless your battery is newer than 2-3 years, I’d start with the battery.

2013 LR4 engine noise from back, not timing chain

I'm not sure I understand the "without belts" part, but the fact that they didn't immediately know what it was suggests it's something less common, I would think. How long have you had the car? Since new? Do you know the service history?

Crankshaft Sensor or Timing Chain or ?

Interesting that yours showed little wear. Some other instances reported have shown a distinct recess into the guides (some appearing to be as much as 1/8" deep).

    Water in Passenger Footwell

Is the working theory here that garaged LR4's are less prone to this due to less debris build-up? FWIW, my 6yo LR4 has no such issues, but based on reading about the problem here 7 years ago, I always check for proper drainage at each car wash.

That looks pretty good and fits better than the OEM version, which seems to be what you want to use if you turned your LR4 into a kill room.

    LR 4 Retired

It is thick and clumsy, but I've been glad to have had it given the cargo I've put in the car at times and other incidents relating to my dog. I do plan and remove it when I think I'll need the 3rd row (usually takes care of 99% of situations), but I have managed to fold it into a "U" shape...

Has anyone here supercharged or turbocharged their LR4?

Up until MY 2013, yes. From MY 2014 on LR4's all got the SCV6 in the US.

Crankshaft Sensor or Timing Chain or ?

Without a doubt, get everything done now that you can. Clean up carbon build up, plugs, water pump, etc. Interesting to see just the engine pulled like that. I thought they would pull the body, since it's "so easy" to do.

    LR 4 Retired

This is a grossly oversimplified statement, but I do think that cars have certain mileage milestones where money needs to be invested if one decide to keep it. I think at 180k miles, on a vehicle with such expensive parts relative to it's market value, it's probably a safe financial bet to move...

    LR 4 Retired

I grew up a huge fan of Toyotas. A friend of mine has a very nice, orange, tricked-out Tacoma (with a manual transmission too!!!). I love the looks and want to love it but I've ridden in it a few times and it's such a crude experience. It's loud, slow, unrefined, small (very small in the rear...
