Timing Chains INA or Tsubaki how to tell?

What plates? I can't picture a "plate", but it's still early here.

    LR4 "Smart" Charging Charging Strategy

Yep. My solar panel is the Lensun as well. That feeds to a Victron 15 amp charge controller that is tied directly to the aux battery. The Victron is handy because it has blue-tooth built in which allows me to keep an eye on the amperage output of the solar panel to the aux battery and it's...

When is it time to say goodbye?

Put me in the "it owes me nothing" camp. But, what will likely keep me with the old girl for life is the cost of replacing her with anything remotely similar or capable. A non-IBF defender is easily $70-$100K, a triple locked Rubicon is $65-$70K and those costs are before I modify anything to...

    LR4 "Smart" Charging Charging Strategy

I updated the ccf to the "no bms" status, but I'm not sure it ever did anything. BMS is still in place, and if you disconnect the sensor it still throws the warning light. I have since made two changes that have made me reasonably happy. First, I added a 120 watt solar panel on the hood, and...

2012 Lr4 service required message “Reset”

Just a note. If you get the GAP and run the reset routine and it doesn't take on the first time, keep trying. I have no idea why, but it sometimes takes me 3 or 4 attempts to get that message to actually go away when using the GAP tool.

    Air in Brake Lines

Teflon tape is a good idea. I'll trace the lines back next, I guess. It is getting in there somewhere. I am not an inexperienced brake bleeder. Too many years of wrenching on Porsches for that. The service manual specifies that it be bled with the engine running, btw.

    Air in Brake Lines

Good question. I should have thought of that. The two rear wheels have the most air. Both fronts are basically nothing when bleeding. Just the tiny little bubbles that tend to seep around the threads of the bleeder screws.

    Air in Brake Lines

Valid point, but absolutely no pulsation in brake pedal like I would expect with a warped rotor(s).

    Air in Brake Lines

I noticed on my last trip that my brakes were taking a bit too much pedal travel for my liking. I followed a couple of on-line tutorials and zeroed in on a bad master cylinder. No biggie. Ordered one in and replaced and bled brakes. Pedal travel was as new, and all seemed good. Over the...

    My 2012 LR4 with 52,000 miles!

Out of warranty Land Rovers should never visit the dealer, unless you literally don't mind ******* money away. Some people don't mind, and that is fine. If it is something you do not want to do yourself, find a decent shop that is familiar with these vehicles. Where are you located?

Preventative maintenance recommendation for a 9 year old LR4 w/52k miles

Knowing what I know now, if it were mine, I would change crossovers at 50K. Failure of those can be catastrophic. If you're in there, you might as well replace water pump, thermostat, etc. I would plan to do transmission fluid at 80K. If original, your front control arm bushings are also...

    Unexpected LR4 project

The toilet repair kit was used on a Porsche 968 when I was a strapping young buck. Headed home to Houston and car started overheating. I coasted into a no tell motel parking lot and hiked over to the local Wally World. I bought a toilet repair kit with a couple length or rubber hose and some...

    Unexpected LR4 project

It's a painful memory. Was changing water pump and new bolt snapped while screwing it in. No I did not over torque it, I was using a properly set torque wrench, just damned unlucky. Tried everything I could think of to get the stub out before I gave up and hauled it to a local race car fab...

    Unexpected LR4 project

It is 100% possible to weld on these blocks. I would be looking a for a skilled welder who works on aluminum to fab something up more durable that a soup can. But, speaking as someone who has made emergency repairs to his overheating Porsche with a Wal-Mart toilet repair kit, nice work.

SYA Spacer Squeak - Front End Squeak - PSA/FIX

That droop is only usable if you install CV axles that can cope with the extended angle involved. You will blow out a factory CV without the limiting straps.

SYA Spacer Squeak - Front End Squeak - PSA/FIX

Thats a good point, and I think it leads to a yes answer. Mechanically, I think there should be enough up travel available since the uptravel starts at a lower point than an unmodified truck. Only reason I can think of that it wouldn't fully compress is if the pressure in the air strut was...

SYA Spacer Squeak - Front End Squeak - PSA/FIX

Good info. Haven't ever noticed it on mine, and mine is almost entirely an offroad vehicle at this point. I have been pondering a point I am unsure of regarding the SYA spacers. Basically, my question is whether or not full suspension compression is available when running the SYA kit. My...

RCV HD Axles - PSA - Friction point

I'll check that, thanks. I remember having to massage the boot placement a bit to clear everything when I installed mine. I'm curious, do you get a "chatter" from any of yours? I sometimes get a little chunk, chunk, chunk and some vibration from mine on takeoff until they take a "set" at...

Best roof rails and roof rack?

I went with cheapo (I assume chinesium) rails when I mounted my prospeed and they have held up just fine through lots of wheeling while carrying a good load that included a spare tire/wheel at one point. No regrets.

    Latest recommendations for front bumpers?

There is a gentleman on the Lr3/4 facebook group with an ARB painted or powder coated to go with his Fuji white. It looks good. I strongly considered it, but I thought for my uses it would just end up pinstriped anyway.

    LR4 brakes soft/hard

I would get two to be safe. I just bled mine after replacing master cylinder, and it took over a liter, but there was obviously a lot of air in the MC.

    LR4 Battery charge

Been doing it for years. Even have charger permanently mounted under the hood. For that matter, I also have a constantly attached Solar panel on the hood. Zero issues.
