    Nickname for LR4?

I'm going with "The Pod" because that's what it is to me, my means of escape.

    Nickname for LR4?

Seems like a lot of folks have nicknames for their rides. I'm thinking about "Stomper" because the shape reminds me of a hiking boot which we used to call a "Waffle Stomper". I've also considered "Escape Pod" or simply "The Pod" or "The Ark" (same idea). "My Precious"? (Maybe hitting too...

    LR4 Owner Considering Disco 2

I found another Disco II that is a 2003 HSE 7 seat model in "White Metallic Gold". Guy is retired and bought it years ago and never got around to restoring it. Says it has some electrical issue that slowly drains the battery. (Alternator? Ground?). Sure is tempting. Saw a video where they...

    LR4 Owner Considering Disco 2

Didn't mean to cause a brawl. Admittedly, I baby mine because I'm blind to any "ticking time bomb" problems that may be lurking beneath the surface. Expect to have a little extra cash to throw at it soon. Want to do all the preventative maintenance stuff and maybe a few performance upgrades...

    LR4 Owner Considering Disco 2

@powershift I feel ya. The LR4 is nicer and I wouldn't trade it straight across. I just saw the Disco 2 that was all decked out and thought it was a really cool ride. I'm tempted by that Tapa engine too. Took a drive of over 600 miles round trip last weekend through Eastern Washington State...

    LR4 Owner Considering Disco 2

Check this out. Wild third row seats with headrests to come down from the headliner. That can't be standard, right? And the gear in the rear door? Lots of character.

    LR4 Owner Considering Disco 2

I've got my 2011 LR4 HSE Lux and am really enjoying it. However, I saw a Disco 2 for sale locally on Craigslist that is really cool and another that hasn't had anything done with it that could potentially be restored (project). Does the Disco 2 make any sense or would I be better served by...

    2011 LR4 Honeymoon - Day 1

Just made it back. Drove through the Grand Coulee Dam region of North Central Washington State. Highly recommend it if you ever get the chance. Beautiful country, like a mini-Grand Canyon, with crystal blue lakes. LR4 held up fine. Air conditioning was a god send when the temp got up above...

    2011 LR4 Honeymoon - Day 1

Okay guys, headed out on our great family adventure - camping trip. Wish me luck. Didn't have a lot of clearance pulling out of the garage fully loaded in access mode. Thinking about inflating the rear tires to 42 lbs. Not only is the roof rack loaded, but so it the back. Want to make sure...

    2011 LR4 Honeymoon - Day 1

Reserved a camping spot in a place called Marcus Island Campground a bit NW of Colville, WA, for this coming weekend. It's a 300 mile drive and over 6 hours, but the scenery should be spectacular. It's mostly secondary roads, including mountain passes through the North Cascades. It's sad and...

LR4 - Coolant Under Pressure When Cold

Removed the cap to the coolant reservoir this morning and no pressure.

LR4 - Coolant Under Pressure When Cold

@M32H32IS That's interesting. I will need to check that too. I feel like my engine compartment has been pretty hot lately (intermittently). Seems to happen more on short trips than longer drives. Why is that pressure when cold a problem?

LR4 to Defender direct comparison questions

I happened across this video from a channel called 4xoverland, hosted by Andrew St. Pierre White. He was comparing the Ineos Grenadier (as a replacement) to the old Defender. Not sure how legit the guy is but he did make an interesting point. After going down the line comparing capacities and...

Hot Hood. Hot engine compartment. Hot grill.

Thanks guys. Great feedback. My wife is a bit of a hypochondriac. There was a time when she insisted that she needed a full-body scan to diagnose any medical problems (or potential problems) she might have. Now I know the feeling! ;)

Hot Hood. Hot engine compartment. Hot grill.

Touched my hood and walked past the front grill and everything was really warm. Opened the hood and the inside surfaces were warm to the touch, to the point of being hot. Engine seems to be running fine. Just had the oil changed and the coolant level looked good, still does. Took a black...

Nuts & Bolts... and Screws (basically fasteners)

@f1racer328 I'm sure you are luckier than I. I'd be looking for 2 of them. For future reference, looks like this has everything in one package...

Nuts & Bolts... and Screws (basically fasteners)

@f1racer328 Yup, just a bored out hole inside the metal panel inside the door. No clip or nut to secure the screw to. Hmm. Don't want to pull the entire door apart to look for a lost piece that's probably not even there. Maybe there is another way to go. Something like a drywall anchor that...

Nuts & Bolts... and Screws (basically fasteners)

Thanks @hickersb that looks right. I can't imagine it would be any different on a RR than a LR. I wonder if these are the ones for the tailgate? I don't see any screw heads on mine. They just look like plastic button heads...

Nuts & Bolts... and Screws (basically fasteners)

Since we are on the topic. I have a couple real minor fasteners that I would like to replace, but they appear to be black plastic. One is the screw tab for the rear bumper plate that covers the recovery ring and tow wiring. There are two that are underneath and hold the plate in place. When...

Help! My LR4 Needs a New Engine & I Need Your Input

@nwoods interesting take on the DIY. I'm like you, polar opposite of mechanically inclined. Owning this LR4 has gotten me thinking about picking up a wrench and learning to use it. I already have in lots of ways, not the engine, but things like trailer hitch and wiring harness and roof rack...

Towing - I Have Not Done My Homework...

@TonyInIdaho that's pretty amazing. Based upon the size of the LR4, I would never have thought it was capable of towing these larger/heavier trailers. I have a 2011 V8 and it is rated for 7,700 lbs. That seems like pushing it to me. But maybe not.

Modernize the infotainment without hacking :P

I'm really enjoying all this creativity. This has been a hot topic on other threads as well. Lots of aftermarket upgrade options, but none of them seems to offer the perfect solution. For me, the perfect solution would be something that retains all the features and functionality of the...

2014 LR4 SCV6 - oil leaking from vacuum pump and upper timing cover on passenger side

Everyone has their own pain points they are willing to tolerate, but I'm sorry, the minute I find myself staring down $5, $7, or $10,000 repair bills, my LR4 becomes a "disposable razor" to me.

    Hyundai just built a LR4

@djkaosone went to the Wagoneer website and the interior seats fold down flat. I'm a little disappointed to tell you the truth. KIAs (*cough cough* I mean Hyundai) and Wagoneers are copying those things I like about the LR4. Hey, here's a Nissan Pathfinder. Look familiar?
