LR4 - Is there an equivalent in ride/driving experience?

Hey, bash5351, nice post. I'm a new owner of a 2011 LR4. The two words you used are the exact ones I use. I say to myself, "What in the heck makes this LR4 so special that you would put up with all the risk and expense of owning it?" The answer I come back with is the ride - solid and...

Finding the "Sweet Spot" (Statistical Failure Rates)

I was watching an episode of "LR Time" (second to last) and they brought up an interesting point. They were showing a chart with failure rates for the LR4s. Most vehicles have a failure rate plot line that looks like a "bathtub" while the LR4s have a line that looks like a bathtub with a...

2013 to 2014 Face Lift Headlight Install

Thanks Longtrail and alldazed. Sound advice. I would never have gotten this far without the help and support of this forum. After the first half-dozen issues with lights flashing and things not working and water dripping into the cabin and the battery going dead, I would have just said, "I...

2013 to 2014 Face Lift Headlight Install

You know that *itchin' sound system? Well, it **it the bed tonight as well. Then I was somehow able to get it to turn back on. After that, it acted normally. The question is, "Why did it stop working?" and "Why did it start working again?" It's always something... and it's rapidly getting...

2013 to 2014 Face Lift Headlight Install

Thanks CRYA. That's great advice. I'm street legal and can see just fine. Just thought I would get better performance, that's all. Given what you're telling me, I'll stop chasing my tail. Got few other items up higher on my wish list right now. Roof rack and tow package are at the top...

2013 to 2014 Face Lift Headlight Install

It's got a *itchin' sound system, I'll give it that much. We have a great classic rock station here in Bellingham, WA. (KISM). I'm listening to Foreigner "Double Vision" in throbbing surround sound as I cruise through the night along empty city streets on a Tuesday evening. Takes me back to...

    Overlander Question

Thanks M32H32IS, me too. Today's adventure was water leaking into the cabin on the passenger's side. I tried to clear the drain tube to the sunroof myself and then tapped out when I saw more water inside the cabin by the passenger's footwell. I called up the local glass place that is family...

2013 to 2014 Face Lift Headlight Install

Apparently, there are a couple of yellow hex-head adjusters in the headlight assembly that can be turned using an Allen wrench to adjust the vertical and horizontal direction of the headlights. I'll give that a try and report back on how it works.

2013 to 2014 Face Lift Headlight Install

Sorry I'm late to the party, but my driver's side headlight went out on my 2011 LR4 and I bought what I was told was the replacement from O'Reilly's for around $130. It was the Xenon bulb with igniter for the low beam housing. The lights work fine and it's kind of neat that they turn with the...

    Overlander Question

The "Clover Rover" is back at home after getting the alternator replaced at my local shop. That set me back nearly $1,300 but it runs like a top now. They reset the electrical system to get rid of all the faults and did a general once over on the engine because I had mentioned that I thought I...

    HD vs non-HD package LR4

I found a 2012 LR4 with the HD Package for sale in my area (Greater Seattle). Has 112,000 miles. Don't know anything else about it. Not sure I'm interested, but thought I'd pass it along.

    Help to decide

The timing chain is a big ticket item that probably needs to be replaced once during the life of the car, but you shouldn't have to do it again. The fuel system seems to be the same. Your two biggest items aren't regular and routine maintenance but major swap outs that, once again, should hold...

    Every Fault Known To Man

This is the one I'm seeing for $350 that fits my rig (2011 LR4). Says it's OEM. British Atlantic. https://www.roverparts.com/electrical/alternators/LR065246/

The video I watched made it look pretty darn easy. But it always looks easy when they do it. ;)

    Every Fault Known To Man

...and for those of you playing along at home, the answer is (drumroll) alternator. ($1,200) Ouch. Could have been worse.

    Every Fault Known To Man

I actually did have a counseling session today as part of my rehab from a recent accident where my previous vehicle was rear-ended and totaled. We talked about the LR4 meltdown and she asked how I was feeling about it. I said, "It all depends upon how it works out but, right now, I'm feeling...

    Every Fault Known To Man

Western Washington (Seattle area) gets a ton of rain. Typically, it's overcast and partially cloudy with scattered showers. That could be the weather forecast 75% of the time. My brother-in-law came to our wedding from Mexico City and said, "I can see now why Kurt Cobain killed himself." Had...
