Has anyone run the Rubicon Trail in an LR3 or LR4?

@greiswig I hear you as well and, in full discloser, I'm talking out of my nether regions because I got my stock non-HD 2011 LR4 stuck up to it's axles in mud on a powerline access road/field and had to be towed out with about 100 yards of cable and a couple of tow trucks a month after I...

Has anyone run the Rubicon Trail in an LR3 or LR4?

"What's more fun? Driving a slow car fast, or a fast car slow?" (This came up in a discussion on what is adequate horsepower for a daily driver.) I think the same may apply here. It's the challenge of taking a vehicle that isn't quite up to the task and seeing if you can find a way to work...

AC condenser, leaking into the passenger footwell

Update: Whatever it is, seems to be a non-issue. Rig is running fine and I don't see any more water puddles underneath. I just don't know where the A/C condenser is supposed to drain. If that's the right location, then it looks like it is just another false alarm.

    2011 LR4 Honeymoon - Day 1

Okay, I pull into the local supermarket to grab a few things for a late dinner. It's pretty dark, except for the overhead parking lot lights. The lot is nearly empty, except for a black Range Rover. Thinking it would be fun and amusing, I park next to it with my black LR4. When I get out of...

AC condenser, leaking into the passenger footwell

I just got my A/C recharged and now I noticed a small puddle of water in my driveway. It's water. Not coolant, not oil, plain water. I took a bit of toilet paper and let it drip onto it. No smell. No color. No oiliness. Could this be from a drain pipe? In the pics below, you can see a...

Rear air conditioning lines leaking - quick fix

Cold air. Yum. Line fixed (for now) and A/C working. Glad it wasn't anything mechanical. That could have gotten real expensive, real fast. My friend the mechanic is a real good guy. He charged me on the low side of fair. He said that he actually replaced an engine on a Land Rover a few...

    LR4 Trailer Hitch Receiver Needed!

Thanks @Rover Range I do like that Safarigard. It doesn't change your departure angle. Double mounted to your slide in receiver and recovery ring. That seems more robust than something you snap in and out (maybe correctly, maybe not). Plus, it's a Class IV. No beating around the bush on...

    LR4 Trailer Hitch Receiver Needed!

Okay, the $35 one off ebay is rated for 500 lbs. tongue weight and the $160 one from British Atlantic is rated for 500 lbs. and the $235 one from Amazon is rate for 600 lbs. and the $600-$660 OEM one from British Atlantic is listed as 550 lbs. (even though it is stamped on the metal as rated for...

Rear air conditioning lines leaking - quick fix

Thanks @Rover Range . I saw online there is a J-B Weld putty as well. Maybe you two are thinking of the same application and techniques, just different products.

Rear air conditioning lines leaking - quick fix

Aluminum. Update: Just got off the phone and he is going to evacuate the system and try some J-B Weld for the time being. He says it will need to cure overnight and probably into the next day. He'll recharge the system and see if it holds. He sounded a little concerned, but I told him it's...

Rear air conditioning lines leaking - quick fix

Just got off the phone with my mechanic and he found a pinhole leak. Would like to replace the line but is struggling to source it. He's a great guy and a good mechanic, independent shop owner, but not a LR tech. Anyone know where a guy would source air conditioning line? For the time being...

    2011 LR4 Honeymoon - Day 1

So after two-and-a-half months the honeymoon is officially over. Like the ending of most honeymoons, it wasn't anything big, but a bunch of small things. It happened this evening when I was at the after-hours clinic waiting to get seen because I didn't have time to go during the day. They...

Cleaning "Jag" (no need to comment)

Real vs. fake. That's what struck me today. I was at the parking lot of the grocery store and saw a black Dodge Nitro. It seemed it could be the kissing cousin of my black LR4. When I got back to my rig I looked up the Nitro on my phone and it turns out it was a limited run of a more...

Cleaning "Jag" (no need to comment)

I fixed something else today and discovered the source of a problem I've been puzzling over. Under my rear driver's side fender on the forward portion under where the passenger's door opens there was a flap of rubber that was hanging loose under the wheel well. All this time, I figured it was...

    My LR4 Journal

Hi @CPalacay I'm in Bellingham, WA just up I-5 from you about 90 minutes (depending on traffic). Got my 2011 LR4 HSE Lux a couple of months ago with around 100,000 miles. Been on pins and needles most of that time. Had a couple issues early on, but it runs, drives, and stops just fine. Fun...

LR4 squealing brake pads with a recent change from the dealer...

Okay, I have to chime in on this. Wow, talk about fortunate timing. I decided the other day to detail my wheels for the first time since I bought the vehicle a couple month ago. I never detail wheels, but the tire shine came with the car cleaning kit, so I thought I would give it a shot. As...

Cleaning "Jag" (no need to comment)

My driver's side door has been hard to shut lately. I was afraid that I might have bent it downwards using it to brace myself getting in and out of the truck. Then today I lightly closed it and it bound up and didn't close. I found that it was catching against the rubber door liner around the...

LR4 - Is there an equivalent in ride/driving experience?

Thanks @modesto_man the one deal breaker is if I start running into expensive repairs for common parts. I bought my LR4 this March for cheap. I've already had an alternator go out. That set me back about $1,300. Not great, but not terrible either. The A/C needs to be looked at and fixed...

Pressure doesn’t decrease when venting gallery

I got the same code today. The warning message was amber and it prompted me to clear it by pressing "OK". It's weird because my driveway slopes upwards considerably from the street to the garage and regardless of whether I park head in or tail in, whatever part is elevated will self-level...

Cleaning "Jag" (no need to comment)

I washed and waxed the rig yesterday. This morning I did the wheels and tires for the first time ever. I was a little reluctant to do them. I thought cleaning and detailing tires and wheels was a bit much. After all, it's a Jeep-style vehicle. Shouldn't the tires and wheels look dusty and...

LR4 - Is there an equivalent in ride/driving experience?

Cool that you got to test drive an R1S @modesto_man. I was looking at Defender 110s and 130s online and, just beneath the surface, they remind me a lot of my 2011 LR4 HSE Lux. I'll stick with what I've got. Still looks pretty good to me.

Passive Entry Question - New to LR

I have the same year and model, but mine is a Lux. The only time it comes into play is when I forget to unlock the rig with my key fob as I approach. I reach for the driver's door handle and the car reminds me that I'm not too bright and corrects me. (Sometimes I think I can hear it mocking...

Cleaning "Jag" (no need to comment)

On the dangers of excess (capacity, among other things). Yesterday, I watched a video comparing the Mercedes G-Class and the Jeep Wrangler. I was prompted to do so because I saw a couple G-Class rigs for sale at the local luxury used car lot. I was curious why they would be so much more...

Cleaning "Jag" (no need to comment)

I've read a few posters stating, "Don't chase problems on an LR4." Wasn't sure what they were talking about, but I feel like I'm starting to get a sense of it. There are a couple of things that have stuck in my head. For instance, I was watching episodes of LR Time where they were tearing...

Cleaning "Jag" (no need to comment)

There are a couple of local used car lots that specialize in Land Rover and other similar vehicles (BMW, Mercedes, etc.). I was up early looking for an excuse to escape from the wife and kids as they slept in. As I sipped at my coffee, I thought I might cruise by the lots before they opened...
