'11 LR4 lower contol arm drama...

@djkaosone Thanks, that's a relief. Not hearing any noise particularly, but the ride feels pretty stiff over road imperfections. Perhaps the poly bushings would explain that. If so, I'm fine with it. Just wasn't sure what a "normal" ride should feel like.

'11 LR4 lower contol arm drama...

@ktm525 Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac 37 psi (front and back) 19" wheels. I think I'm probably good. This is what I could see from the outside in off-road height (Lt and Rt). I believe those orange parts indicate that the front control arms aren't original. Looking at the condition of them...

'11 LR4 lower contol arm drama...

How do you know if your lower front control arms are going out? I understand it is a common problem. I haven't heard anything major. No crunching or cracking sound. The only thing I've noticed recently is the suspension doesn't absorb minor road imperfections very well, expansion cracks...

    Happy Father's Day!

To all you fathers out there, have a great day! If nothing else, your LR4 is your "baby". Hope it treats you well on your special day. Let us know if you got to do anything fun together.

Trailer Wiring Kit from Atlantic British

Took the LR4 to the local trailer place and they did a system check. They plugged into the 7-pin and everything seems to be working as intended, including the brake controller. Seemed like the perfect time to check out a used travel trailer. Went and saw what looked on Craigslist to be a nice...

    Air Suspension Performance

@Longtrail It's like the best man at my wedding said, "I've got some good news and some bad news." "The good news is your bride is beautiful, absolutely stunning." "The bad news is she will never look this good again."

    Air Suspension Performance

I looked at the LR4 and realized there is nothing left to do. Everything is working on it. No faults. Roof rack. Wired for towing with a brake controller. It's clean and straight. Maybe it's time to sell.

    Air Suspension Performance

I know. I wasn't there when they removed the seat and found the key fob, but I doubt they vacuumed up those crumbs either. My sense of relief was indescribable when I learned they found the key fob. You can't imagine what a PITA it would have been to get the situation sorted if they weren't...

    Air Suspension Performance

Okay, been playing around with the new cheapo "Hitachi-style" compressor. It's louder, for sure. Seems to be engaged and running longer as well. But it does eventually shut off. Occasionally, I will hear an aggressive burst of air being released. Seems like it happens when it is making...

    Air Suspension Performance

Key found. He had to pull the driver's seat and it was tucked way up into the rails. Eddie is a good guy and is willing to work on my LR4 without making a big deal about it and at a reasonable rate. Turns out it was his shop hand that didn't follow protocol. Normally they would keep the key...

    Air Suspension Performance

Helpful info @f1racer328 . After having slept on it a bit, I'm going to make him find it. I'm not going to lose an expensive key fob due to his carelessness. I can wait a day or two if that's what it takes. It will be good for him too. There has to be a meaningful consequence for practices...

    Air Suspension Performance

The good news is the cheapo compressor works, LR4 lifts and lowers in all 3 positions without any faults. The bad news is my mechanic friend lost the key fob somewhere inside the LR4. We know this because you could start it without the key fob. You couldn't lock it, either with the other key...

    Air Suspension Performance

Mechanic friend of mine gave me a call from his shop. He has it apart and says the parts look identical (Hitachi/Hitachi knockoff) but he said it's going to take some extra time to swap out since the bolts securing the old unit are heavily rusted. The weird thing is I have been underneath the...

Best roof rails and roof rack?

I love my new Baja rack but it is heavy, 100 lbs. of steel tubing fashioned into a visually appealing and functional cage. That's one advantage of the ProSpeed, weight, along with the low-profile design and lack of wind noise. I can see why people that want those features would be excited by...

    Roof rail installation trouble

@CPalacay Thanks! No noticeable wind noise. In town driving there is absolutely nothing. On the freeway, I would say the sound of the engine and the tires on the road is louder. In fact, I used to get a weird buffeting noise from the top passenger's side of the windshield at freeway speeds...

Trailer Wiring Kit from Atlantic British

Thanks @f1racer328 that all sounds good. I like the idea that I can tow without all that other stuff, but that other stuff does sound pretty neat. I'll probably get the computer updated at some point to reflect that it now has tow wiring and a brake controller installed. By the way, what do...

Trailer Wiring Kit from Atlantic British

I did the British Atlantic wiring harness and brake controller today. The big snag I had was with the wire connectors behind the plastic panel in the back cargo area. They were jammed against one another in a really small space with metal brackets holding them to the frame. I had to mess with...

    Roof rail installation trouble

On a side note, went to brunch this morning at my favorite hole-in-the-wall, small town, diner. You have to appreciate a place that offers Season Salt as a condiment. Had biscuits and gravy with hash browns and over-easy eggs layered on top.

    Roof rail installation trouble

Got the short rails installed. Only 2 of the 8 button cap plastic fasteners came out clean. The rest popped right off and left the plastic stem inside the nutserts. Those needed to be reamed out, cleaned out, and then re-tapped. Bought an extraction tool and that did nothing. Tried twisting...

    Roof rail installation trouble

Okay, finally got one side on and figured out why it wasn't working out. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=land+rover+drive+youtube+LR3+-+Lr4+roof+rails+install&t=brave&iar=videos&iax=videos&ia=videos&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D6jMxEOoVa4Y It's not easy or straightforward. I'll...

    Roof rail installation trouble

Whelp, I'm striking our at every turn. The material is too soft to hold an edge when I cut a slot into it. I can get a small flat head screw driver pretty deeply into it and it just rotates and bores out the hole. I am going to grab some WD-40 and see if that will loosen up the threads. Next...

    Roof rail installation trouble

Got the genuine Land Rover short rails in tonight. Will be using them as the mounting base for a full-sized Baja Standard Rack. Not a lot of "wow" factor here, but they are roof rails. As long as they fit and work as intended what more can I really expect?
