Not sure a "ram air" is going to change anything. You get lots of fresh cool air with the dual intakes, just not rammed in. With the plethora of insects lately I prefer the side design as my airbox doesn't get filled with crap.

Really the V8s are getting lonfg enough in tooth that they shouldn't be the primary mode of transport. They do quite well as a second or occasional vehicle.
Fuel line is no issue. Wrap a rag around it while loosening the rail from the hose. A little hiss and you are good. Are you sure the chains are slapping? Is that why you got a good deal on this rig?
Very little support/parts or expertise in less travelled places. The further you are from support the greater the advantage of simplicity. ie. a nice simple TBI SMC Chevy V8 would be ideal in the far reaches. Like an old K5 Blazer, Bronco or Land Cruiser. Fix it with an adjustable wrench and...
