Running Winter/Snow tires in relatively warmer temperature areas
I wouldn't run dedicated tires (often at least) above 40 or so. They just aren't made for it. In SoCal temps you'd be replacing them a LOT. Have you considered chains? I don't know if they are legal there, they aren't in Michigan. If not, maybe a winter rated all season like the nokian WR2. -

LR3/Discovery 3 Fuel Grade Requirement
I personally wouldn't worry too much about it. If it doesn't knock with 87 go ahead and use it. I used it for most of the 90,000 miles I put on mine. I can't recall hearing about any fuel related issues with these vehicles. I suppose you could make the argument that your throttle plate might... -

Was the snow from a snow plow or fresh? Yes snow tires would have helped. But not much in super deep snow where all the weight is on the undercarriage. You can drop the suspension to compress the snow a little, which will probably end up putting it in super extended mode. Rocking back and... -

Thanks for the link, interesting article. Here and there, I see crazy high MPG estimates. The telegraph says 39.2 mpg. Where do you suppose that comes from, because there's no way it's right. edit, even if it's an imperial gallon it would be 32.7 mpg U.S. which still seems high- roverman

Todd, You're missing out on a great storage area. As soon as I got mine, I took out the seats and installed a 'floor' that I had carpeted. Makes a great storage area for tools, hitch, tow ropes and plenty of other useful stuff! Unfortunately for OP, I'm keeping the seats for when I ever sell... -

The first thing I'd do is check out the brake dust covers and make sure one isn't bent in to just touch the inside of the rotor. That can be intermittent, but usually you can make it occur by turning one way or another. You might see a light scoring on the rotor if this is the culprit. Being... -

Everything about tires for LR4/ LR3 with 18" wheels
Curious as to why an alignment? Spacers don't change the angles involved, so what's the increased track width got to do with it? -

I guess it's matte. I bought a couple cans of 'glossifier' and used in on a wheel or two, but didn't see a whole lot of difference. But I really like the matte look anyway. If you want a real shiny gloss, you're definitely better off just painting them. -

It's super easy. I did it with the wheels off so I didnt have to worry about over spray. Make sure you do a bunch of coats though, it makes it easier to pull it back off. I did at least 5 I think. -

I plasti-dipped my side vents for $5.99. They look good, certainly not glossy and shiny though. I am a little worried about doing the grill, so I haven't yet. The texture is a little rough with the plastidip and I'm afraid it would be too hard to scrub dead bugs off of it. I'll probably use... -

I suppose until we see it in person it could possibly be "the best 4x4 we've ever built" but I don't see how it could be - aside from a pretty awesome wading depth. It's just a shame they have made it look like every other suv on the road. The beauty of the discovery was it's boxy 'truckiness'...- roverman

Nokian WR G3 Tire Question...
I'd say it's your bushings. Unidirectional tires wouldn't have anything to do with your symptoms. Although tread pattern might have a different feel over tar strips or grooved roads. How many bushing replacements will this be for you? I know you've got a ton of miles, just wondering what the... -

LR4 USB Socket - Routing to Phone?
What a ridiculous spot for the key! Pretty sure it is supposed to go in the nook in front of the EPB switch. :D As far as the charger, I plug it in the outlet behind the center console and run it next to the passenger seat. When I'm not charging, it's completely out of sight. -

Looking for floor jack recommendations
With a floor jack, can't you just jack up under the control arms? I've done that plenty of times, in which case you don't need nearly as much lift on the jack. Block of wood, and a couple inches of lift on the jack. -
