20 degrees? Try below zero. All our outdoor spigots are turned off and drained and hoses empty. Water wouldn’t get from the spigot to the nozzle in this weather.
Do any of you guys wash your brakes regularly?
On another happier note I drove from VT to NYC today, leaving my home early this A.M...
I bet it does to some degree. I took my LR4 to the same indie for its annual inspection and I asked them to look at the rear brakes while it was in the shop.
The calipers weren’t releasing fully or moving smoothly in the tracks. Yep, they were rubbing lightly (no burning smell yet). This tells...
That’s a very good point. My problem started some time after I drove my unit thru a lot of deep snow and slush.
I wonder how many LRs are being driven with lightly dragging brakes and the owner isn’t aware of it? The whole mechanism looked very susceptible to getting hung up on road crud.
I can’t tell about brake dust. I’ve been driving in two inches of salty slush for a while.
But the calipers were sticking. They showed me when they had the wheel off. And yes, I was told this is often asymmetric.
The total bill for cleaning both front brakes, freeing up the calipers, making sure...
Ha! Just took it to local indie. On both front brakes the pads were binding. There was a lot of crud and salt and the pads weren’t moving freely. Caught it in time and rotors weren’t damaged.
Frank
Never heard grinding or squealing or any noise whatsoever. The binding must have been...
Holy crap! I drove home this AM and the burning smell was very strong. Had to shut off heat.
Drove into garage and the garage filled with the smell.
I felt the front brake rotors and they were scorching hot. The rear ones w ere barely warm
I couldn’t touch the front ones, both sides. The...
Sorry, it doesn’t smell like cooked animal.
It smells like rubber or insulation cooking.
That’s what bothers me.
Where is the outside air intake located for the heating system?
Frank
It’s been real cold for a long time. Yesterday I briefly noticed a faint small, like burning rubber or insulation coming thru the heat vent.
Today, after the engine got good and warm I noticed it again, but much stronger. On the way home it was again very strong, like insulation or rubber...
I have never before taken off the plastic shield that covers the front tow hook. I needed to this afternoon (don’t ask) and after giving each of the hold-downs a quarter turn as per manual it wouldn’t come off. I was afraid of breaking it
I’m back in my garage but still can’t get the thing off...
Curiously, the list doesn’t show Northern Motorsport in Wilder VT or NE Foreign Cars on the Woodstock Road in Hartford (White River Jnctn)
Both are top-drawer and work on a lot of LRs
Stay away from Land Rover Bedford. Dishonest
Frank
There’s a guy who restores LRs in Colchester. He might be able to recommend someone. He does not do service on recent vehicles. There’s New England Foreign Cars and also NE Foreign cars in Hartford but that a schlep (but not 200 miles). I go to these guys.
Are there any in Canada?
Frank
This might be easy to diagnose. Try putting another device in the receptacle to see if it’s working. If it is then it’s the little plug-in voltmeter that’s at fault. You can also switch the voltmeter to the other receptacle and see if that works.
Frank
The flush-mount installation is very slick, indeed and those terrific pictures/descriptions should make installation a breeze. However, being old and lazy, I bought...
For what it’s worth, I’ve had a black non-HD for a bit over a year. I don’t do serious off road but a lot of class-4 roads and logging roads. Had some very heavy snows in Vermont this winter. I’ve never had a problem.
I’m sort of sorry I didn’t get it with HD, not so much for function but just...
I know nothing about your specific vehicle/ engine but I seem to recall from my long-ago love affair with engines that there’s a crankcase breather and if it gets plugged the only other vent is thru the dipstick hole.
Wild card but might be worth checking.
Good luck
Frank
Either that or a computer went wonky. I suspect the computer.
We were negative 25 this AM and my nav didn’t turn on. When it finally did the monitor was very washed out and didn’t brighten until everything warmed up. The “eco” quit also
I sorta find it hard to believe that -10 would increase...
