Easy way to spot HD package on '14 - '16 LR4, but how about other years/models

On the '12-13 it shows the rear lock icon regardless of mode if it's HD, changes from green to red when it locks. Not sure about '10-11 with the older infotainment unit.

Green/Orange/Factory LCA Bushings from Atlantic British?

You must live in a magically smooth land, because my wife's RRS had to be replaced at 52k miles and my LR4 were shot to shit at 66k.

    LR4 tyre change

The only thing that might be a problem (note the word might, I don't think it would be) is that you have computer-controlled stability and traction control (and all the other fancy shit they call it) that could potentially get pissed if the sizes were vastly different. It uses the brakes and a...

Green/Orange/Factory LCA Bushings from Atlantic British?

I have the green and think they ride great. I did notice the difference in firmness over the worn out bushings, but mine were so worn out they may have been artificially soft for a while. Now my LR4 on 19" wheels rides exactly like the wife's RRS (with OEM bushings) on 20" wheels, which is perfect.

LR has had my LR4 for 3 MONTHS!

    The current XC90 is gorgeous.

LR has had my LR4 for 3 MONTHS!

I agree with your husband about the junkyard markings, and that engine definitely looks like it has been sitting outside of a vehicle for quite some time. Sounds like an awesome dealer.

    Lower the suspension

Yep. Slow leak somewhere. It will become a big leak eventually.

LR4 Tail Gate - Auto Lift

The window of my wife's old Commander was like that and could pop from the key fob, but the main hatch you had to lift. It was really convenient, but that window wouldn't open higher than the roofline thankfully. I still remember a couple of "oh shit" moments when I'd bump the button and cringe...

    front bearing replacement

Bearings rarely go bad suddenly, so I doubt one would catch you at an inopportune time. Just keep an ear out, feel for weird looseness when turning sharp, push the top of each wheel with your foot every now and then, etc. You should be able to schedule it for a convenient time once one starts to...

Testing how loud my Goodyear Duratrac are...

That's pretty huge. 85dBa is where OSHA requires mandatory hearing protection in the workplace. Considering db is a log base 10, every 10 is not 10% louder, it's 100% louder. So your LR4 is 8x as loud inside as your F150, which is on all terrain tires, too. Amazingly Ford manages to make control...

    Battery and Voltage

Our charging system is computer controlled and not as simple as things used to be. It only charges when it believes it needs to for the sake of saving drag on the engine, thus boosting fuel economy by a fraction of a mpg. As such you'll see battery voltage in the 12-13v range instead of the...

    Another tire/wheel thread: 19" vs 18"

Keep your 19" wheels and get the Conti ATs unless you just like pissing away money to seem tough. You aren't doing anything that will be beyond those. Even the "serious off-roaders" here would be fine with that (insert hate comments here with pictures of a tire a few inches off the ground to...

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

I think timing chains and tensioners needing replaced before 100k miles is totally normal for such a heavy vehicle that rides so well.

Living up to its unreliable history

Dave Ramsay is good with money, but he doesn't sell cars. The trade value of a 5yo lr4/rrs is legit about 1/4 sale price so it does match his average - hit the nail on the head there. Look at the comparable residual value (and purchase price, not msrp) of a land cruiser. I never said what a...

Living up to its unreliable history

...you said you got 32k a few posts back, and were even condescending to me when I suggested that you got a discount on the LC rather than receiving more in trade value than it was actually worth...

Living up to its unreliable history

I agree. I still like the RRS and RR, but only in certain trims. I don't like any of the others anymore. I actually do think the Evoque is good looking - probably the best of the Evoqued models as alexcorral called it - but it's a nearly useless vehicle for my life. If I were going to buy...

Living up to its unreliable history

You got a good discount on your new Land Cruiser. Your LR4 didn't go up $12k in trade value between the lr dealer and the Toyota dealer. They sell for 22-24k all day long. That isn't a testament to the lr4 resale value.

Living up to its unreliable history

That is a terrible looking wound - what the heck were you hit by? Why did it take four months to fix that, though?

    Tow option question

You need a brake controller to utilize trailer brakes. The stock vehicle even with the 7-pin wiring will not apply trailer brakes. See previous post about software.

    Tow option question

I use a Tekonsha Voyager brake controller. For any controller just look up the harness for a 2005 Ford F150 - I guarantee that works, because I pulled the harness and controller out of my 2005 F150 and plugged it right into my LR4. "Tow Assist" can be enabled/installed (it's software) since you...

Living up to its unreliable history

I didn't make a personal attack intentionally - I broke my reply to you apart from the latter to try to make sure I didn't seem like I was singling you out. I'm sorry if it came out as personal, it was intended as a blanket. I'm just astounded at how LR zealots accept obvious design flaws as if...

Living up to its unreliable history

You're all correct, it's completely normal. Every other manufacturer hasn't been able to figure this out, the LR4 is the heaviest and best riding vehicle on the planet and this is to be expected. Brand loyalty and pretending they don't make mistakes is the dumbest shit I've ever seen. This...

Living up to its unreliable history

I never made a comparison to an Explorer. Problem from 2002 on means it is what it is -- I agree completely. A shit design that they didn't bother to revisit.
