    Engine air filter

Five years if parked, more often if driving. Actually how long something like an air filter is good for depends upon where the vehicle is driven. If always in a dry dust free cool mountain like environment, then maybe a long time; if in a normal Normal American city where rain is seldom...

Transmission fault, HDC, lowered suspension height -- resolved

Replace the brake light switch and then clear all the codes again. Your dealer is probably pretty good at doing warrenty repairs on new vehicles, but older ones, well they have different problems that most dealers have never seen. Eventually you will have to find an independent who works on...

Fluctuating RPM's at constant throttle (throttle hunting, surging, gear hunting)

Hide, rather than fix, is what might at best happen with any of these transmission "treatments". Dirtying up the tranny oil is another fix - perhaps with iron filings - not a long term fix but long enough to exercise the options. This is why a problem automatic may not function all all, (well...

BEWARE OF RANGE ROVER MAP UPDATE FROM "HERE MAPS"

Re the LR4, is there any option to using Here Maps, which is I gather the official LR update supplier? My 2005 LR3 fortunately uses the CD so one has a few options so to speak. With the LR4 solid state memory design and "very proprietary" update cable, I was of the thought that one does not...

Oil Level "Not Available" - how to fix?

I don't suppose you would provide the link - I regard both the question and answer as of value.

Fluctuating RPM's at constant throttle (throttle hunting, surging, gear hunting)

This winter, I have the same problem - engine surging, but if I shift into a manually selected gear and drive for a few minutes, the problem disappears for the day. I have 275,000 km (170,000 miles) on the 3 and have changed the tranny oil three times now since new. As the first post of this...

    rear wiper motor successfully fixed

Gear arrived today and as advertised. That was pretty quick from Turkey - ordered Feb 3 and arrived Feb 10. I expect these guys in Turkey make the OEM parts so it is probably made of good material. It will be spring however before I install it as a preventative maintenance item.

    Suspension, air compressor question

It looks like you have the AMK replacement compressor for the original Hitachi. There are some parts available for the older Hitachi which was OEM on the 2005 to about 2010 vehicles, but the newer AMK, I have not heard of any parts yet being available. That does not mean there are no parts...

    rear wiper motor successfully fixed

Thanks - I just ordered the gear. It will be spring when it warms up before I do the fix, but at least I will have the part - hopefully it will fit the motor in my 2005 LR3 so let you know in a few months. My motor sounds OK but the 3 is now about 12 years old so the nylon should be getting...

    rear wiper motor successfully fixed

Could you provide the link to Amazon or where ever if is you ordered the part. I am not very familiar with ordering via Amazon - eBay is where I find most of my stuff. Also, was there a Land Rover part number or is this what might be called "after market"? Replacing the gear sounds like a...

    E-brake lock-up!!!

It sounds like you do not yet know about Bodsy's Brake Bible. Below are links on disco3 to Bodsy’s Brake Bible, a free 36 page pdf containing all you need to know about all three brake "systems" on the 3. http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=4184 Download the latest version...

Nokian WRG3 or Bridgestone Dueler h/l Alenza plus

I regard the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza H/L as a summer tyre. I put a set of 19" on about four years ago and as summer tyres, are very happy with them and would purchase them again. For winter, I have 18" Pirelli Ice & Snow 235 65 R18XL, 110H, a narrower tyre than the 19" 255 55 R19 111V XL...

    Suspension, air compressor question

I guess an update would be in order. In otherwords, have you got your 3 up and running? The -900 compressor should not require any updates however what you received may not be the -900 unit. The first thing I would be looking into the electrical connectors of both the new and removed unit to...

Transmission fault, HDC, lowered suspension height -- resolved

Cleaning the existing is a good idea, but what many do is purchase and install a new switch and then keep the removed in their spares box - you will need it someday. The good news is that I think the new switches with the FoMoCo logo in place of the Land Rover logo are actually better switches...

Transmission fault, HDC, lowered suspension height -- resolved

I suspect your mechanic is correct. There are so many subtle changes between vehicles that you are lucky if you can get anything used to talk to something existing - even light bulbs. 2007 to 2008 might communicate, but for certain, 2007 to 2009 would not. The 2009 vehicles software wise...

Transmission fault, HDC, lowered suspension height -- resolved

yes, everything to do with the brake light switch I presume you read my post #58 above with regards to the two sets of contacts on the brake light switch so yes, ABS etc is tied to the operation of or lack of, of the brake light switch contacts. I note you have a 2011 RRS, which I presume...

    Alternator - OEM or Aftermarket?

normal bench tests do not work Your comment regarding the bench test make sense. As a rule, normal bench tests do not indicate regulator failure in that they will show the regulator as OK when it is not. This is because the regulator listens for some sort of Pulse Width Modulated signal...

    Fan Clutch Not Working Properly

update appreciated It is nice to hear how a problem was eventually resolved. I am also pleased to hear that there is an aftermarket fan unit for less as the LR price is not much fun. Again, thanks for the update.

    Alarm going off

fully charged battery fixes alot of things A new or fully charged battery can fix alot of things on a LR, at least for awhile anyway. The systems seem to require near 14 volts to keep them happy and less than 12.5 makes them very unhappy. A good first attempt at a fix for near any problem...

    a/c drain in lr3

one hose had slipped right off On my 3, the left hose by the gas pedal had slipped right off. I did not try any unplugging of the rubber hose; I just slipped the hose back up over the nipple and it seemed tight. A couple of years on, all still seems OK. My 3 is tucked away in a garage...

    Headlight bulb replacement

Factory D2S HID xenon 35 watt 4300K bulb The link below is some info on the factory D2S HID xenon 35 watt 4300K bulb that is standard in the eyeball headlights of the higher spec 3's. The 4's use something similar but not the D2S bulb. After about ten years, I replaced both my bulbs due to...

    a/c drain in lr3

Clip part number FYC 500040 What you are saying is that the one hose you looked at had not actually slipped down and off the plastic drain tit of the heater cowling, but that the hose seemed to have condensation or moisture on the outside. When one or both hoses slip off, that is when you...

    High idle switch

a bigger alternator also perhaps I would be looking for sites such as below that specialize in high output alternators for police type vehicles. Given that our electrical system is Ford designed, it may be that something Ford like can be adapted to provide high idle. It seems high idle...

Replaced Rear Air Valve - New Symptoms

Air System files for your info. As you changed the rear air valve out, I think you pretty much must know how the system works, but below is a link to wiring and pneumatic drawings. I suspect the right side air line is just not properly inserted into the new valve block and hence leaking...
