    Tire Wear

Yes it can be with a little effort working on the LR but worth it in my book. My 95 D1 w/ 5 spd and 4.6 suspension is at 142,560 miles with original lifetime non greaseable ball and tie rod joints maintaining almost like new joint tightness and stiffness. Only item I replaced was the rubber rear...

    Tire Wear

jwest's reply nailed it on (almost) every account about tyres. Solid axles, no worries with alignment problems. The 95 D1 had one alignment done at date of manufacture 11-94, presently at 142K original miles. Alignment still perfect. Michelin tyres five in rotation with only one problem...

Exhaust Modifications (Muffler Replacement or Straight Pipes)

Removed the cat back OEM muffler and resonator then installed a fully stainless cat back Borla system having just the muffler really sounds tight and great. A clean sounding exhaust like a 60's era 289 Mustang with long Glass Packs while stirring the stick plus it woke the engine up big time...

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

To be accurate chains should be washed clean with all oil removed, stretched out straight making note the number of links and its length. Next compress the chain making note the length difference with the same number of links usually a set standard of links when measuring chains to determine the...

    Bosh engine Q

Sad part when all the D1's are gone what is left? The new "high tech 5.0 litre engines with their failing timing chain problems eating themselves up until a CEL comes on making a racket costing $5-$9K in parts replacements and labor to do it again adding more miles. No thanks besides they all...

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

So very true spoken words the "long list" especially the "go BOOM" part. Now your introducing higher worry into those LR4 owners that are "worrywarts" by nature. Anything mechanical that is making noise is related to wear issues period. With the 5 litre especially at cold dry start clanking...

    Bosh engine Q

Looks like a keeper to me being a 4.6, 9.35 CR as long as the cylinder liners haven't been slipping up and down with no cracks in the block behind the liners. Future top hat project?.....~~=o&o>.....

Does LR3 front cv axle diff seal need to be greased?

Your best answer would be to stop by a LR dealership and ask making a presence, that way usually seems to get you better answers vs just calling up dealerships. Heck later call several others and see if you get the same answer. Seals in general should all be lubricated as dry they would get hot...

    Bosh engine Q

I forgot to add in regards to D1 3.9 engine powered LR owner problems. The IAC (idle air control) valve an expensive little critter nesting at the right rear location of the plenum cover near the top. The IAC pintle can get gummed up over time and mileage then start functioning intermittently...

I tried them all and torture tested them, Ramblers, Javelin, 67 Dodge PU w/318 3 on tree a gutless gas hog, 66 Chrysler 300 gifted in cherry condition, 80 Volvo w/the PVR engine, the same as in the DMC, gifted 68 bowtie PU me thinking Pee Wee Herman's bowtie jackoff but after several exploded...

Which diagnostic tool are you using

I bet you have to be very very quiet ("Elmer Fudd") while listening for them little electrons zipping down the wires carrying important information from all the vehicle's sensors. You need to go for a "Thump" before winter sets in up north. That still a 510 called 525, a XC short stroke 525 or...

Mike, the 3.0 bar BMW regulators are mounted the identical way as LR having a rubber hose inlet from the fuel pump with an "O" ringed outlet mounted to the fuel rail. With a pressure vessel filled with fluid pressurizing the regulator plus a variable vacuum source connected to the regulator I...

Mike, your "stringent" Colorado smog regulations, I would bet we are tougher with our California smog tests especially living in the 9 bay area counties. Talking the San Francisco bay area. I must add the 4.6 ( your "legal swap" reply) from a 3.9 into my 95 D1 (5 speed) was an easy transplant...

    Bosh engine Q

Mike, what are your 4.6 "stage 2" Hp, Tq and cam specs? All 4.0 engines become 4.6 when sold used seems to be the norm. Block numbers I posted above are a sure way of identifying a 4.0 vs a 4.6 engine .....~~=o&o>......

Which diagnostic tool are you using

I purchased a OBDCOM (usb interface) unit which requires a laptop to connect and read faults. Laptop's big screen way better than other hand held too small of screen units, trust me I tried them all. Best $59 investment purchase ever for me a OBDCOM unit. A dealership's one time diagnostic...

    2001 Discovery Series II Suspension

Sorry late to the party but have LR engine code numbers to identify 4.0 to 4.6 engines. Give this a go old chap. 95 D1 5 spd repowered with a 4.6 w/chip and cam upgrade. Well worth the added torque swap vs the sad LR bored out 3.5 to 3.9 turd. I hope you got that 4.6. PS, do yourself or engine...

    Mass Air Flow Sensor

Sorry I haven't been on this forum for several years and missed "Disco Mikes" reply above. I would of replied if I followed this old thread years ago. For one thing I have had 95% success spray cleaning LR Mass Flow Meters, only failures were Mass Meters that had mechanical damage (screwdriver...

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

Not likely........ Haven't encountered cam chain with slipper problems on the 86 735 or 87 325IS BMW's which have 245K (735), 317K (325IS) BMW mileage and counting. Mercedes of the 50's era, my 56 300c Mercedes another example a chain driven OHC engine without any of these the low mileage...
