High Range to Low Range Scarry Feeling

This highlights an issue that I suspect many have. Not criticizing the OP but let's get real here. If 4LO had actually been previously engaged you would have known not to shift into 4LO at 20mph. Those are basically tractor gears for off road and heavy pulling. I'm sure your drivetrain gave out...

    Lower control arm question

The passenger side LCA rear bushing is usually the first to go. Look for signs of oil around the rear bushing, either wet or small drips.

HD Pack - after sale installation?

The transfer case is DD295, manufactured by Magna Steyr and used in the LR3, LR4 and RRS.

HD Pack - after sale installation?

Don't know the answer to that question. The transmission rear casing may be different to allow the xfer case to bolt up to it. Or there may just be an adapter plate. I would think there are many pieces needed besides the xfer case to make it work. As already noted, find a donor vehicle? A large...

HD Pack - after sale installation?

Realistically I think that someday the transmission and xfer case will be integrated into one sub-system. We are already headed to 9-speed gearboxes to eek out a few mpg's and somewhat address the loss of a 2-speed xfer case. Are we there yet? No. Land Rovers move to eliminate the xfer case was...

HD Pack - after sale installation?

Is suspect the percentage of vehicles equiped with HD have declined as the LR4 approached its EOL. There are previous years available.

HD Pack - after sale installation?

Can't imagine wheelin a 6000#+ vehicle without low range. The two areas that I feel need low range and HD are slow / reduced-speed maneuvers over unfriendly terrain. Traction control requires a degree of throttle / forward speed that can be problematic in some circumstances. On some trails I...

    SCV6 - 340hp ---> 380hp?

Looks like there is going to be a business opportunity rebuilding SCV6's in the future........

    SCV6 - 340hp ---> 380hp?

The JLR 5.0 V8 is not the Ford Coyote V8. It was designed by Jaguar and is direct injection. The Ford is ford, previous generation port injection. I would think any changes to ECU profile that change boost without the balance of the 'system' managing the increased stress and thermals would void...

Home setup/equipment for swapping wheels and undercarriage rinsing, etc.

A little light weight there. I wouldn't crawl under a LR3/4 unless the lift was rated at 9000+

For those of us that miss the Pirelli ATR, check out this new tire...

Just because a manufacturer decided to classify a tire as "AT" doesn't mean it is good on snow and ice. Selection of compound (hard/soft) and siping is more important. Tires that perform well during cold weather are usually soft compounds. Similar to "All-Season" tires that are a compromise for...

    wheel spacers

285/60-18's At normal height some rubbing on leading edge of front tire wheel arch and on frame horns. Eliminated the wheel arch rubbing with some minor trimming. Frame horn rubbing is at limits so a slight backing off on turns solves that. Could cut them but maybe later.

    wheel spacers

I run spacers with my LR3 18" wheels on my LR4. Properly torqued and checked each tire rotation/balance, I have never had an issue. I run E-load General Grabber AT2's that are Snowflake rated so I don't change tires between summer and winter. The tires just work, and very well, in all conditions...

    Terrain response settings

Cleared highways in the winter can be more treacherous than a road with snow on it. I can generalize that 60mph on ice and snow can be an issue. I'm a Midwest driver. Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Dakotas and Montana experience is my reference point.

    Terrain response settings

Speeds of 50-60 mph in snow is asking for trouble. Traction control will only add a sense of stability, until its gone. I'm amused at the new vehicles that all sport some form of traction control, resting comfortably with the older vehicles, off the road or hillside and down an embankment.

Running Winter/Snow tires in relatively warmer temperature areas

Good to see someone highlight that all-season tires are really no-season tires. You should consider a "snowflake" rated tire that you could run 365 days a year. I have the General Grabber AT2 and have driven across Colorado, Kansas and Missouri many times with that tire. Winter storms, ice and...

    Knocking noise

There is no reason to replace just one side and ignore the other. Inspect the 4 outside bushings of the lower control arms (front/rear of each control arm) If you see a dark wet coating, similar to old oil, the bushing hydro seal has failed and the arm will "clunk" when encountering a speed bump...

    LR5 Release Updates?

Well if the specs Dan highlighted are accurate, the LR5 is eliminated as a tow vehicle. My 19' Keystone is at or over those LR5 specs. And what is with using low range for off the line. Really?

    2013 LR4 New tire question

Bought tires from (Discount), who also do rotate and balance at my interval (cost built into purchase), and dealer for alignment ($119). Alignment interval based on my adventures. Tires are General Grabber AT2 which are E-rated. So far 20K miles with excellent tread remaining. Previous owner...

    ProSpeed slider install...

Not surprised. Manufacturing tolerances result in moving targets, in this case attachment points. My local Rover accessory shop requires you to drop off a vehicle for fabrication of bumpers and sliders as all vehicles are somewhat unique.

Is this possible to remove '16 LR4 running boards?

Considering that the LR3/LR4 are basically unibody on full frame I don't think running boards offered any increase in integrity or rigidity.

    LR5 Release Updates?

Appears the base model includes a tow accessory while $650 gets you a receiver, wiring and a different bumper with cutout to accommodate the receiver/wiring. For the base model where are the safety chain attachment points? In summary it creates another item (checklist) that will narrow the...
