Since we are at altitude (6200') and offer Pikes Peak/Rocky Mountains as a testing ground the local dealer sees factory test mules fairly regularly. Looked at the D5 during a visit to the dealer last week. I will leave it as "interesting" but not compelling. They only had one on the lot at the...- mpinco

Everything about tires for LR4/ LR3 with 18" wheels
The hitch is still a plow. Was referring to mounting hitch with large tire stowed under. The new hitch protrudes into the spare tire space so it's either one or the other. Not both. As for larger tires a swing away is ideal but not everyone has one nor wants one. -

Look at it this way: - The LR4 is equivalent to a 3/4 ton truck - The D5 is equivalent to newer 1/2 ton trucks and larger cross-overs.. -

Never knew tires actually had this much impact on the ride quality
Every tire is a trade-off. I ditched the factory spec passenger rated tires and went 18" and load range E. Trails would have eaten 20" tires alive and passenger tires would squirm with the heavy LR4 towing a camper trailer. In addition came down a moderate grade road when it had rained for days... -

The JLR engine is hardly a dinosaur with direct injection, phasor cam timing and Roots technology. Now the DI/DII Buick engine was a dinosaur. -

Yup, not sure were I got the Audi weight. Tow capacity is also the same as the D5. That said, I would still lean D5 as it is more of an off-road vehicle. But I already have a LR4 so not in the market. If I were it would be another LR4 5.0L -

I cut the heat shield down and installed the Rhino hitch for 285/60-18 General Grabber AT2's. They are load range E tire so sidewalls are stiffer and deflating less effective. The factory hitch is not friendly to oversize tires. It protrudes into the storage space when used. If never towing you... -

The Audi is 700 lbs lighter than a D5. It should get better fuel mileage. As for engine, a better comparison would be hp/torque curves. Suspect the Audi produces that power at higher revs, a feature pretty useless in an offroad or tow vehicle. -

The SCV6 was derived from the 5.0 V8, hardly a dinosaur. New Jaguar V8 revealed in Detroit That design makes lots of torque early in the power band and better matches a vehicle targeted at off-road vs. smaller turbo engines that lag and produce less torque. For offroad and towing I'll take... -

Real world MPG on the LR4
I can confirm the LR4 is capable of single digit MPG. The drive from Cheyenne, Wyoming to between Laramie and Rawlins is a slow uphill climb, typically into your legendary Wyoming wind. Add a travel trailer and it is single digits all the way to the top. Typically I see 14/15 around town with... -

Trailer Wiring
I ran a 6/8ga wire to a fuse block and through a Blue Sea ACR that was routed under my LR4 to the power pin on the 7-pin connector. See this chart for voltage drop/wire size requirements. Total wire length is on the order of 25'. The stock wire gauge is small, 16 or even 18 ga? Too much voltage... -

Trailer Wiring
Land Rover's under dash connector for a brake controller is a Ford connector. Also check your trailer connector to make sure the Land Rover 7-pin is the same as whatever you plan on towing. And don't expect to charge a battery from the LR3/4 as wire gauge is really too small for that task. -

Windshield
I've seen some Safelite glass. Optically inferior and wavy. Made in China or elsewhere. They will source secondary market unless you ask. Replacement glass should be Pilkington only.
