18”New Defender steelies on LR4

New noise. Timing chain?

2011 LR4 front air strut replacement
I replaced both my fronts with Arnotts a few months ago. The front was starting to get soft and it looked like the shocks(not airbags) had gone past their prime. LR4 Front Fender Modification for Larger Tires
I think going to 20s and running 275 55 20s is a good option. This does not require lift rods and minimal work on frame horns(if any). Always depends on the wheel offset too.- TrinidadLR4

Transmission issue when cold?
I did a whole thread on this, on a 6sp. It's more work but not that complicated, if you're already in there. Just replacing the solenoids doesn't address the other wearable parts(end plugs, o rings) that are in mechatronic unit. And since proper pressure is critical, replacing these helps a lot.- TrinidadLR4

I use Rock Auto quite a bit, mostly for the sheer selection. The format of their site is fantastic, big fan. Also they sometimes have stuff on closeout. 2010 LR4 Engine/Tranny Issues - Should I Fix?
At minimum, i'd do a trans fluid service and possible zip kit(at that mileage, it will probably need it). As far as engine ticking, you'd need to post a sound clip. Tons of people swear their chain tensioners are going bad but these engines are loud to begin with and the HPFPs+fan clutch make...- TrinidadLR4

Steal of a deal on an LR4 with issues
One concern I have about that kit is that it retains the factory ZF 4HP trans, which I don't think is a very good transmission(especially compared to a GM 6L80E). Have you considered ways of ditching the 4hp and going a different route?- TrinidadLR4

It's an OK price. Walmart's pricing on M1 EP(extended performance) is better. I've used that for years. Brake question
It might have been an install error. With the brembo pads, there is a backing plate to the pads - this plate worked itself loose somehow and was rattling around. Either way, noise is gone with Akebonos so I'm happy.- TrinidadLR4

I just had this problem too with brembo pads and it drove me nucking futs. The car sounded like a total rattlebucket going over bumps, squealed horribly and it sounded like the front end was going to fall apart.
