cooper tires and crappy gas milage

As Jim said, I ran bigger tires since 2005. After the first year or so, I had an opportunity to trade out my V6 front rotors with a set from a V8, so I did. No detectable change that I can recall. I drive a LOT, in LA traffic, and went off road more than most folks do. My brake wear was...

    Brake help

Okay, my memory is really bad, but ball park numbers are something like 18,000 for pads (front and rear), and around 35,000 miles for pads and rotors front and rear, repeat the cycle again with new rotors around the 65-70k mark. I drive a lot (+25,000 miles a year) in LA traffic and was off...

    Brake help

I can't tell quite what kit that is. I bought mine through Atlantic British also, and they were EFCO (or a name very similar to that, my memory fades...) and were very good. Edit: I clicked the linked part numbers embedded in that page, and the pads are OEM, but the rotors are not. They don't...

    Cooper Zeon LTZ on LR3

    Cooper Zeon LTZ on LR3

Most people move the wire to the top of the frame instead of the side. THe clip that holds the wire to the frame moves along with it. There is another spot on top for the same clip. It's one of those 30 second fixes that makes you wonder what the factory was doing during it's multiple QA...

    what the transfer case does

It does more than send the power to the front and rear. What it does is double the effective number of gears you have, by stepping down the gearing which in effect, provides significantly more torque to the wheels. So instead of being able to hit 23mph in first gear in normal high-range drive...

    Weird cornering performance - Help

4th on DSC. Means two things: 1. You are driving the car deep and hard into corners, and you are to be congratulated 2. Your brakes are worn and the DSC system is kicking in a bit more aggressively. ...or both.

What did you do to your LR3 today?

Hey Paul, how's Bobby's Hole these days? I had read that it was scary and barely passable, then the photo's I've seen over the past two years make it look pretty tame. Certainly no more difficult than Elephant Hill. What's your opinion? Top of the World, boring, kidney abusing trail, but...

    Exhaust Mod

I did not know the dimpled canister (#8 on the diagram) was just a silencer, I always thought that was the cat! thanks for posting up that diagram. I agree, the two silencers aft of everything are definitely sacrificial. I had done a trim job on mine once, in the field, after crushing the...

The obligatory "Show off your LR3' thread

Paul, what sliders are each of you using for Utah? As for tires, the .5" won't make much difference in ground clearance, but the taller outer diameter will make a notable difference on ledges and large rocks.

Late Notice Opportunity - Dipped in Green Training event this Sunday - 5/16/2010

We did Sedona a while back. It's a traveling road show, but unless we raise our fees significantly, needs to be within one day's traveling location. Of course, we'd be willing to fly to any location and use available on site transportation (such as riding shotgun). Adam is focusing more on...

cooper tires and crappy gas milage

Also the taller Coopers have changed the relative aspects of your gearing ratios. Though it's not really perceptible, your engine has to work slightly harder to turn those meatier tires. That reduces efficiency. You never hear about the great mileage those rock crawlers on 40" tires get, right?

Help convincing wife in taking LR3 offroad

Yeap, do a wheeling event with either the LR dealer or the local LR club. In Florida, she's partly right, it is very muddy, but remember the tagline (old) Best4x4xFar, now promoted as "Premium Offroad" (properly spoken with a British accent). My wife is an outdoor person within reason (likes...

    On board air (cheap)

Interesting comparison. I owned both compressors concurrently. They do not compare in operation, the VIAIR was much better. I like the MV50, it's faster than my current VIAIR 450, but the 400 was terrific, and the MV50 is simply "adequate" in my opinion. I suspect they are made by the same...
