Advice on a new vehicle? (to augment or replace the LR3)

The Armada is a pretty good contender, very large interior, outside dims about the same as LR3, though they LOOK much bigger. Interior is also pretty nice, though more plasticky than the LR3, and the captains chairs are overpadded. Still, it's an excellent long distance adventure mobile...

    Resetting Brake Pad Light?????

Did you replace the sensors when you did the pads? The sensors are a "wearable" component and only cost about $15 or so. It's been a while now so my memory fades, but I don't recall doing anything to clear the light, but I replaced the sensors at the same time the pads (and rotors on occasion)...

    Beach LR3 ?

I don't think it would be any fun in the Jeep. It's a tractor, 80% of it's torque is developed at idle. Sand is a horsepower game, with a need for speed. The Jeep is not speed.

Nice sliders Mr. Johnson. Beantmt, I am remiss, I forgot the most important part of my response to you initually. Kudo's to you man! Thanks for taking your LR3 off road! Way too many people only get a fraction of the value of their monthly payment out of their LR3's because they never...

2010 Land Rover National Rally in Moab - what LR3 owners need to know

Moab Valley Inn is popular, but not that great. I prefer the Super8 hotels, there are two in town, both adequate. The rally starts early each morning, so B&B options aren't all that practical, you'll miss out in the breakfasts most likely. If money is no problem, there is a ranch along the...

I know the LR3 has a rock crawl mode, but...

LOL, I'm just having a bit of fun with you. I know better than most how hard it is to capture the essence of a 4 dimensional trail in a photo, but to my fairly practiced eye, those trails are definately within the LR3's capabilities, but practice and experience are exceptionally valuable in...

2010 Land Rover National Rally in Moab - what LR3 owners need to know

Amen brother. Good news is that Solihul actually trains its trail leaders, often having Bill Burke and others provide dedicated training prior to the event, and they pre-run all the trails. There are a few, or at least one, Solihul Society trailer leaders that wheel the LR3 and know how to...

I know the LR3 has a rock crawl mode, but...

All I see in those photos is some nicely maintained fire roads. A stock LR3 with stock tires can walk through all that no problem. Just requires an intelligent right foot, a sensitive left foot, and an understanding of what line to take. Trail ratings and LR3's are tricky things. I wrote a...

2010 Land Rover National Rally in Moab - what LR3 owners need to know

Okay, moment of truth: MOAB TRAIL RECOMMENDATIONS I drive an LR3, and wheel with Classics and DII’s regularly. I am a capable spotter, and know the abilities of these rigs very well. I feel comfortable making recommendations on Disco II’s, LR3’s and RRC’s. D90’s very widely in ability...

2010 Land Rover National Rally in Moab - what LR3 owners need to know

A few years ago in 2008 I made up a trail description and "what to expect at the Moab Rally" for folks who were new to the area and/or Solihul's unique way of running the National Rally. Here is a link that original discussion. Note: As the author and former LR3 owner, my perspective is...

Any interest in getting a Group Buy going w/ Off Roving Sliders?

Sorry, I'm pretty much a Can-DO attitude guy, but I worked on these sliders for 4 years and became a bit more of a realist on this one topic.

    Rant!!!

I agree, one forum only please for all related LR3 blather, but as others have said, the post should have sense of adventure or knowledge transfer. A car washing thread would only be valid if A) I found an exposed connector while washing last weekend's mud off the frame and was wondering.... or...

Pirelli ATR VS Hankook Ventus AS RH07

That's sort of like what my clients ask in our new construction projects. They want it 1) Cheaper, 2) Faster, 3) Better. My answer is always the same, chose any two.

Any interest in getting a Group Buy going w/ Off Roving Sliders?

From my experience with this, the best thing you can do to save money on the sliders is co-locate your Ship-To location. If you can ship two sets per pallet, you save $300 or more dollars. The more sets you order, the bigger the savings on shipping. As far as the sliders themselves, in the...

    All-Terrain Tires. Let's have a conversation.

The Goodyear Duratrac's look pretty good, but I have heard inconsist feedback as to their durability. I would rank the true AT choices this way: 1. Cooper Zeon's - proven, inexpensive, capable, wear well 2. Hankook DynaPro ATM RF10 - See above, though not quite as widely implemented (thus...

    CB Radio installs

I have a local shop called the Solder Joint that focuses on CB and MARS racing radios, but I have also had success with www.cbcity.com and www.claysradioshop.com If you search here and/or www.LRRforums.com you'll find some posts by me with specific antenna mount model numbers. You can also...

    CB Radio installs

I had a custom mount that attached below the rear brake light, but it's a terrible location because 50% of the antenna facing forward was blocked by the vehicle. You want your antenna to be mounted so that the base of it is in the center of a flat metal plane, such as the roof or hood. A...

Staying ahead on maintenance + life expectancy of key components

I think the airbags can go at least 150,000 miles, but probably 10 year max life? I think the control arm bushings should be replaced between 15k and 30k depending on how you use your LR3. brake pads, 15,000 - 20,000 miles brake discs, 30,000 - 40,000 miles Don't forget OEM Goodyear...
