Oversize tires and pressures on- and off-road

@djkaosone I have some rules of thumb for how much to air down offroad from street pressure, but the recommendations for that street pressure vary a lot. I've had limited success with the chalk technique before, but I might have to try it again. Another one that used to be recommended was that...

How to: Supercharger Removal, Rear Crossover, and Passenger Valve Cover

I'm replacing the plastic coolant lines, and thought I'd add my own $.02 here on top of this thread, in hopes it helps someone else out. So far, all I've done is remove things...really haven't started the process of replacing them. So there may be an additional followup. FYI, that part alone...

Oversize tires and pressures on- and off-road

Recently installed a set of Cooper Evolution M/T's, size LT275/70R18, and I have asked Cooper to give me a table (assuming they have it) that gives recommended on-road inflation for a given weight on the axle. These are pretty tall, but narrow (9" tread width). I'm wondering what others are...

Ran low on coolant - hose came loose. What issues could engine have now? 2011 LR4

That whole assembly of coolant hoses and fittings on the driver side of the radiator....man, what a mess! I can easily see how one could make a mistake there.

DIY water pump and crossover pipe Video.

    LR030593 is the part number.

DIY water pump and crossover pipe Video.

Yes, I saw that in your writeup, too, @jlglr4 . Appreciate your attention to detail in this as well! One thing not on the parts list: when replacing the water pump and the oil cooler tube (LR028136), it comes with one seal, but the O-ring is sold separately. $13 for an O-ring. I'll get a part...

DIY water pump and crossover pipe Video.

I am REALLY grateful you posted these, @jlglr4 ! I was about to dig in to replacing the plastic lines before I read @Michael Gain 's article on his own experience there. I hadn't planned on pulling off the supercharger. Now I have more parts to order.

    2015 LR4 shifter

I've been fearful of that, and I'm glad to hear it isn't required to be up in order to shift. I assume that there is a worm-gear driven actuator that raises and lowers it. If it were me, I would try to raise it permanently and not bother with it being lowered. That assumes that the motor is not...

Another LR4 Saved from Coolant Death

Is there any documentation that covers the actual procedures for replacing all of these components in one place? Or is it simple enough that you look at the new part in your hand, map it to the existing part on the engine, then R&R?

    Dangly bits

Interesting. They don't seem massive enough to do that, but do seem like they'll clank nicely on hard trails.

    Dangly bits

OK, I was looking under the chassis near the exhaust tips, and found these strange, heavy cast bits that seem to swing around right near the exhaust. What the heck are they?

V8 Coolant Manifold / Crossover & Maintenance Parts List

Oh, Lord...don't get me started on the Unimog. I no longer have it. Serious love/hate relationship with that beast. And I'm hoping I haven't jumped right out of that frying pan into another with the LR4.

    Lucky 8 SYA Kit Problem

Sounds like you have a fair amount of trail testing with the straps this way. Good to know!

    Lucky 8 SYA Kit Problem

Thanks for the detail! I see where you're coming from. For me, if I put 2.5" lift spacers on there, although I might expect the range of travel to stay the same as stock, I'm expecting to lose 2.5" of droop travel (if CV joints were the limiting factor with the OEM configuration) and gain 2.5"...

    Lucky 8 SYA Kit Problem

Hmmm...I wonder if they re-did the straps since you installed the kit. Mine did not require me to change the suspension height for the installation. My understanding for these straps is that (as with most suspension limiters) it's less about protecting the suspension than it is about protecting...

    Lucky 8 SYA Kit Problem

Interesting, @djkaosone . Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I like the idea of having less strap limitation...but only if it means that the driveline is still protected adequately. How did you arrive at the conclusion that these new strap positions would allow for something like the original...

    Pulls hard right on acelleration

Just brainstorming at this point. The caliper idea is a good thought. Is it possible that a suspension bushing is shot, but wasn’t noticed during alignment? I’ve installed two ARBs in other vehicles.I struggle to think why installation of one of them would cause an issue like this, since the...

    Locker behavior questions

I'm used to having a manually-activated locking differential. So forgive me for some dumb questions. Which of the "terrain response" settings utilize the locking rear differential? Does the locking differential just stay engaged in those settings, or does it just look for wheel spin and...

    Pulls hard right on acelleration

I've been racking my brain trying to think of something other than traction control that could cause this, but I'm coming up short. Best I can offer is good luck!

What are the two hard lines on passenger side rocker panel?

I think your memory is correct, although the spring is canted toward the back. In any case, the front of the rear wheelwell is where the clearance issue mainly is. If the goal is to maintain maximum articulation for offroad, that's one of the key places to look for clearance. In front, as you...

What are the two hard lines on passenger side rocker panel?

Yeah, I think 295's would be pretty ambitious for the rear wells if you hope to maintain articulation. Most rigs you have a harder time modifying the front to accommodate larger tires because of steering. On the LR4, I think the back presents more issues.

    Lucky 8 SYA Kit Problem

...although one other thought occurred to me that makes me suspect the engineering a bit: the rear strap lower mount. I don't think it's a good idea to mount those to the alignment bolt on the upper A-arm. I'm worried that it's going to make aligning things a real PITA.

What are the two hard lines on passenger side rocker panel?

Interesting. What size tires were you trying to fit in there, Michael? I swear I could make a set of 295/70R18s fit in there if I moved those and combined them with the 2.5" lift. And then what is the process for recharging the rear AC system once you've done that?
