It's a Rover, it's finicky, why would anyone use anything other than the recommended oil to save a couple of $. Rover oil is easily available FCPEuro and AB. -

OEM all the way. I have now completed the F/R rossover project on 2 of my 3 LR4's. 3rd one, 2015, now at 42K miles. Failure on the 2016 was the front crossover on the left hand side, inside the block. Was not leaking, just good timing. Failure on the 2013 was the o-ring on the oil cooler tube... -

Having done the project and with the experience, I agree, on the V8 one can get to it pretty quickly. Of course, it does take longer if one has never done it before... You are in you-might-as-well land. See the video for most of those - plus, do the PCV valve. -
