Weird suspension fault
Anything that's in there on both sides, I always replace as an axle set. (Unless it's a true injury of some kind - like a tire that picks up a road hazard - but even then it there is any appreciable wear, I replace both.) If one side has worn, the other can't be far behind. -

The torque is 12NM per the mechanics manual. I would probably go with the Helicoil. I would order a new bolt from Rover then use that to spec the insert. That way you know you are getting the correct match. -

On the water pump spin question. I just replaced a perfectly good one last month. Of course mine is empty and in a box, but it spins maybe 2 full rotations when I give it a flick of the wrist. But yours is installed the vehicle so it's a different configuration... -

Sounds like they did not bleed it properly, with the result of low coolant and overheated.
