Help with my land rover rear window

You'll want to bounce this to the Range Rover section of the forum.. But, I'm pretty sure it's the switch, maybe try some contact cleaner, then replace the switch if it doesn't help.. Mike

tip of the week. Coolant level sensor

Well done KTM.. $6 to save a $10k engine? When I punch those numbers into my calculator, it shows a thumbs-up. Mike

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

I imagine it's all about preserving the profit. Wikipedia counts 129,869 lr4s models 2010-2012.. Let's call it $1,000 at cost to replace them.. Just under $130m.. I imagine that McGovern needed that cash to buy ascots and destroy the visual heritage with the Disco5.. Mike

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

Quijote- I think mine was quoted like $4,500, and that is at the -premier- LR dealer here in Kansas City.. So that's not really that bad- take a grand off that for an indie joint.. As I see it, this job is one of the final problems that stand in between us and 150k+. So far this forum has...

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

RyanJl: I thought I had noise on startup, brought it in and our dealer said it needed new chains.. By "chains" I'm sure he meant tensioners, as if the chains are making noise it's because they are laying broken in the bottom of the engine.. Mike

Living up to its unreliable history

Quijote: If you choose to sell your truck after 10 years, I will be there to buy it. I imagine that the interior stills smells new, you are a lucky man.. Mike

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

RyanJL, your logic seems sound- in both the videos I watched: 1. The chain showed no damage or significant wear 2. The tensioners showed significant wear- to the point of malfunction Using these videos and Occam's Razor highlights the culprit (tensioners) and dismisses the innocent suspect...

    Spark Plugs

Well done KTM.. Has anybody done a step-by-step for plugs yet? If not, I'm thinking about doing one- this seems like a job were we could save some folks some money with a few pictures and details.. Mike

    Tranny and dif oil changes

This is what my owner's manual says, but for the record I think this schedule is ridiculous.. I am at 75k, and have changed everything but the coolant and blinker fluid. Mike

Living up to its unreliable history

Yep, what Ryanjl said.. It's not brand related- I inherited someone's nightmare in the form of a turbo Porsche and it took me over a year to get it straight.. Shoot us a year and mileage, and we can try to get you on the path to normality.. To add to Ryan's list: Any maintenance records...

    Gearbox Fault

Check this: https://www.roverparts.com/parts/TRANSLINKIT1 ..and one on the auction site: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Land-Rover-LR3-LR4-Range-Rover-Sport-Transmission-Gear-Selector-Lever-Bush-Kit-/231108217378 This could very well be the culprit.. And for the price, you can't go wrong.. Has...

    Gearbox Fault

I'd start by looking under the truck for leaks coming from the center of the truck, and inspect the linkage to the transmission. Does the shift handle feel loose? Try giving it a rap with the palm of your hand, straight down like you are trying to push it into the floor of the truck (these come...

    Heavy coolant leak / failure

NAS, I assume that you pulled the Throttle Body to get in there.. You might want to pull the wire connector to the TB back off, check for debris/corrosion, and re-seat the connector.. I don't recall a learning process that would cause bad performance for the TB positions, but I could be...

Coolant low warning on- and leaking into passenger footwell??

It sounds like you blew a heater core, or a hose/ connection leading to it.. From what I understand, the only coolant lines that get through your firewall are the ones attached to the heater core unit, so if you are getting coolant in there it would be a prime suspect.. I'll keep searching.. Mike

Land Rovers Suck!! Hear me out!

MBW- Agreed x10. In my experience, if you run ANY liquid cooled engine out of coolant, you have about 30 seconds before bad things start happening. I don't care if it is a Ford, GM, Toyota, or Land Rover. Does this engine have annoying weak spots? Yes. Can it be a pain in the ass to work...

LR4 Transmission oil change... mixed feelings.

Spawnywhippet- That is huge information, thanks for posting that.. There isn't a lot of talk here of people getting into the solenoids or the Mechatronic plate, so there is very limited knowledge of what issues these replacements will fix.. The Mechatronic plate is as far as I have researched...

LR4 Transmission oil change... mixed feelings.

I see your points.. Nonetheless, I wouldn't be changing fluid to fix a problem, I would change it to prevent a problem- just like engine oil. I think the dealership has a software update to fix that 1-2 shift..? I thought I remember hearing about one.. Did you change all the fluid, or just...

    Clear coat peeling on mirror

Nope.. That's pretty significant- where do you live? Does the Rover live outside or inside at night? I'd get a good wax on the rest of the car- you don't want that on your hood or roof.. Mike

    Timing Chain repair costs

AZ: It *should* apply to all.. All 3 forums are chattering about it as it plagues us all.. As Quijote stated, right around mid build-year 2012 the issue was fixed with upgraded components.. I think there is a place you can check your VIN to see if you are in the clear.. KT: From what I...

    Timing Chain repair costs

Here's the best I could find.. I can't locate anything out on the net that has the complete tear-down along with the fitting of the new tensioners/guides/chains. The Jag guys have been circling around the issue for some time also, with some folks saying they did it (sans write-up). I don't...

    Timing Chain repair costs

That looks legit, some of those timing covers have to be replaced as they have seals in them.. $2346, with a new chain installed? I'd do it in an instant- especially if the dealer is covering labor.. I see this is your second post, welcome..! Read up on the maintenance DIY and oil change...

    LR Driving School

I agree, it does sound like a PITA, but I might have to go with it on the fender flares (plastic, aka non-magnetic).. They seem to catch the brunt of the limbs, and I just had one replaced today due to my mother-in-law hitting the truck in the garage.. Painter's tape.... I might just put...

    LR Driving School

Awesome, I'm registered. There are 2 more LR3 guys that will be attending so we should have a good show.. In preparation: I remember seeing a thread a while ago about some spray paint that you can spray on and then peel off? That sounds like a good idea- I spent HOURS polishing scratches out...
