Has anyone run the Rubicon Trail in an LR3 or LR4?

It's been quite awhile since I ran it, and that was in a heavily-modified Isuzu Amigo. The short wheelbase, really low gearing (142:1 in lowest range) and big tires helped a lot. Unless it's changed substantially since then, and unless a) you're a very good offroad driver b) with a good spotter...

    18” rim set up

Lots of threads on the topic of maximum tire size, and how one brand's 275/65R18 size has a different overall diameter than another. Suggest you use the search mechanism here, and read about modifications that need to be made for different tire sizes. Lift has less to do with it than clearance...

Battery - IID Tool Strangeness ?

That's true when the batteries are not isolated from one another, but that's not the case here. And I don't think it's true here as a result. The isolation means that even a completely dead aux battery will only remove the stop/start functionality, but you can still start the vehicle just fine.

LR4 - Is there an equivalent in ride/driving experience?

Porsche Cayenne. A friend loaned me his for a long trip, and it was super comfortable. I think his was a 2008? No idea of tow capacity, though, and the cargo capacity is considerably less. I test drove a newer 4Runner, which was pretty good and had nearly as much capacity, but I'm glad I got an LR4.

    PCRC Rendezvous in Chehalis, WA

The Pacific Coast Rover Club is having a get-together this coming Saturday. Just wondering if anyone else from the forum here might be attending?

    Ultragauge 2

If you're really worried about it, wouldn't it be better to put a moisture alarm and sensors near those crossovers? Might trigger false alarms in river crossings and such, but...

    HD vs non-HD package LR4

The locking mechanism on the rear differential is pretty obvious. IDK what an open differential looks like, but I assume it does not have a block on the side of it with wires going to it.

    Long crank, no faults

If they’re right, hopefully they were able to correct the skipped tooth before they reassembled? If they could see that it skipped, maybe? if it were me, I’d try to do that and see if it does happen again. No real risk there.

    Long crank, no faults

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that the ECM is faulty, but my limited experience has been that vehicle computers tend to either work or not. And when they don't, they throw a lot of codes because so much is going wrong. Again, my limited experience leads me to believe that once you...

    Air Suspension head scratcher

Rotten luck! Sorry to hear that. Good luck getting any LR help in Moab or Grand Junction, either.

When did your crossover go and is your climate HOT (CA, NM, AZ, TX, LA, etc) or COOL (PNW, northeast, etc)

What I saw when I replaced mine (and it broke) looked more like the rubber O-ring had been leaching plasticizers from the tube. And since the tube is thin right there anyway, to create a recess for the O-ring, it got really brittle and just crumbled. That was at 47k miles.

    Long crank, no faults

Is all this assuming that the readings you're citing are actual pressures? IOW, if the sensor is bad, trusting the reading on it and looking for the correlation between fuel pressure and whether or not it is firing might be a bit like measuring a dead person's temperature with a thermometer that...

    Howto: DIY LR4 Alternator replacement

IDK if that alternator can be made to do this, but the best stick welder I ever used was a Premier Power Welder on a 190 amp alternator. It'd be a really great trail backup. That alternator required an external regulator, though. Good luck with the install. Let us know how it goes!

No heat on driver side after adding Bar's Leaks to coolant

Sulfuric acid would (IIRC) be a very bad idea. It reacts with aluminum. If it were me, I'd try disconnecting the hoses to the heater core, opening up the heater valve all the way, and back-flushing the heater core with a hose with variable pressure. The core ought to be good up to 14psi or so...

Another Coolant Leak - Occasional White Vapor at Idle? 2015 SCV6

Burning coolant has a few characteristics that might help separate it from "normal" exhaust. For one, that white smoke hangs around a lot longer than steam. For another, there's a pretty distinct sweet smell associated with it. HTH

    Low Coolant Light

Hmmm...I'm actually not sure what happens to a steam-generated bubble, @txfromwi . Here are my hopefully-less-panic-inducing thoughts: 1. Let's assume that he DID boil the coolant by relieving pressure. If he let it cool after that, I think steam bubbles tend to collapse once the temperature...

    LR4 Battery charge

I suspect LR are worried about voltage spikes damaging the electronics in the vehicle. A high-current charger might be able to deliver those, but a trickle charger won’t.

    Long crank, no faults

I'm guessing here, but...if it doesn't happen when it's very cold but dry, but it does happen when it's been cold and then turns wet, I'd be wondering about an ignition issue. In a vehicle with a distributor cap and long ignition wires, condensation can form on those and conduct the spark away...

Emergency key (blade key) not unlocking LR4

Isn't the mechanical key supposed to let you in even if the battery is dead? I would think that is part of the point. (Asking honestly, as I really do not know)

    lr4 fan clutch thread direction

Rule of thumb is that whichever way the engine rotates, to loosen the fan you want to turn the nut in that same direction.

Using third row map lights as extra cargo lights

I don't know. There are so many computers in this thing that for all I know disconnecting the positive leads from the map lights would trigger a "bulb out" alarm. But that's an easy experiment to do just by pulling the bulbs out. I ended up wiring in some LED tape to the rear cargo light along...
