If I were your mech, I'd have checked your oil press 1st with a test ga. Having said that, these engines are sludge producers, (all alum), if you haven't changed the oil every 3k miles, it's quite possible your lifters are dirty. The fact it gets worse after warmup tells me your using some... -

transmission issue?
that's a shame - The output speed sensor tells the trans when to shift, I'd go for that, it's way cheaper than tearing your trans apart. The trans people make money on tearing apart or replacing transmissions, not spending 20mins replacing a hundred dollar part (if it costs that much) that... -

What is the best Rover for the Pan American Highway?
