I'm not sure why LR keeps changing the model from LR3 to LR4 to LR5. ? I think we are smart enough to just say, "hey, there's a new LR3 platform out!"

Anyway, I like this quote from the story;
"refocused as a more utilitarian model"

New details are starting to emerge about the 2016 Land Rover Discovery 5 / LR5.

According to documents attained by Autocar, the SUV will be refocused as a more utilitarian model. Furthermore, the information indicates the Discovery - codenamed the L661 - could ride on the same platform as the redesigned Defender. However, it remains unclear if it will be an all-new chassis or an updated version of the current T5 platform.

Land Rover would be wise to split the RRS from the LR3/4. Use the T5 platform for the new more utilitarian Discovery and for a Defender and all it's variants. We are just starting to learn all of the nuances of servicing the T5 and there is starting to be a number of choices for aftermarket parts. If they drop the T5, that development will stop and we will have start all over again on learning how to repaid the new platform.

You probably have a problem with the upcoming 2014 Ford-151 too!

Nice look. Little short? I hope they don't reduce the cargo space.

That better be a tailgate and not a hatchback! :)

Looks futuristic and all...but keep the beam between the doors for body strength...and so we can still open one of the doors if somebody drives into the other one!

I hope those fancy seats still fold hard flat!

Overall, looks nice, if not a little too much like the new Ford Explorer.
When does it come out?

First, think of how the Range Rover and it's "sport" version compare. Then, realize this is actually presented as the Discovery "Sport". You will then see that, no, obviously the cargo area we are used to having will not be retained in this slanted version. We can hope, and be vocal with LRNA, that the next version will retain more cargo height in the main Discovery model to properly replace the LR4.
