...this is actually presented as the Discovery "Sport". You will then see that, no, obviously the cargo area we are used to having will not be retained in this slanted version. We can hope, and be vocal with LRNA, that the next version will retain more cargo height in the main Discovery model to properly replace the LR4.

That's what confused me, it wasn't clear if this this is an LR4 replacement, an LR2 replacement or adding a new one to to the mix.

It does sound like (link below) that this is the LR2 replacement. If so, yes, I'd of course expect less interior space than the LR3/LR4/Discovery.

What I really think LRNA needs to deliver, though, is a "SPORT" version of the LR4/Discovery that is the same size but with less high dollar gloss. Give us a capable vehicle, with lots of space, but scale back on the luxury which has gone overboard for a utilitarian vehicle. They should be keeping that on the RR badged vehicles but offering the U.S. two versions of the LR4 line. Those versions would be;
(1) I am actually going to take this offroad and regularly fill the back up with sporting equipment.
(2) Give me the most luxury you can for less than what a Range Rover costs.

Today LRNA only offers #2.

I don't see where LRNA offers #2 at all or I do not understand what you mean to say.

jwest, sorry, just noticed your reply from many months back.

What I meant is it seems #2, above, is what is offered today as the LR4. I may not have described that clearly.
They should ALSO offer a version with all the capability, but without all the glitz. That would deliver a very capable vehicle without many of the options adding to the cost, that a lot of folks don't care about.

Has anyone heard rumors on the full size DISCOVERY and when it would be released?
(not the Discovery Sport)

I saw this article (from July) with pictures of a LR4 replacement concept;
http://www.car-revs-daily.com/2014/07/09/land-rover-discovery-vision-concept/

It's a pretty annoying website with all the flashing ads. BUT, I think these are all pics of the Vision which is the full size Discover concept vehicle

It has definitely lost some of its distinctive styling (as reported, it kind of looks like an Explorer). But they hopefully heard that feedback and will at least redesign the front of the car, grill area.

I'm sure this is old news for many of you. I'm just catching up...

Car & Driver; Discover Vision Concept

But for all the ****-bangery, by far our favorite feature is the Remote Control Drive, which does exactly what its name claims: lets the driver operate the vehicle at low speeds while not seated in it. Controlled by a removable rotary control unit from the console, smartphone, or tablet, it’ll remove much of the frustration inherent in trailering toys when solo.

I'm pretty dissapointed to hear they got rid of the tailgate. :confused: :eek:
That sucks. Such a useful feature. Allegedely they have an event platform (below) which sounds dumb. Putting another piece of metal in there that slides out is just something else to break and takes up what could otherwise be nice storage space. Make a friggin' two piece rear door, or design a concept that can work both ways (open as one piece, or split in two). Anyway, at least there is something...

The gesture control is also called on to operate the single-piece tailgate, which is paired with the very British-sounding “event platform” that deploys from the rear bumper. When combined with the “social seat,” which rises from beneath the load floor to offer a rear-facing bench when the tailgate is open,

Can't be as nice, though, as the current tailgate which provides a smooth extension of the rear cargo area...at same height, with barely a bump from one surface to the next.

The new CARGO area is interesting. It seems that every seat folds down (other than driver) which is cool, and the 2nd row slides forward to give limo style leg room in the back. But, from the pictures it doesn't look like they fold down to a solid platform. I'm not sure how they are going to pull it off, but if you just have a bunch of folding seats, with all kinds of gaps, nooks and crevices...it certainly isn't good for gear stowage? Let alone laying down a sleeping bag back there when on the trail...

Land Rover Vision - JUMPING THE SHARK

But it's just a concept vehicle, right? There's hope...
