I finally got around to start rattle canning my wheels this week. I did a test first on one of the spares I got from goinsurfin. I must say it turned out pretty good.

To prep (this is what I did and I'm not saying this is the best way):
1. Cleaned as best I could.
2. Roughed up and removed rough spots with steel wool.
3. Went over surface with 600 grit sand paper.
4. Blew off with compressed air.
5. Cleaned with brake cleaner and microfiber rag.
6. Taped off between lip of rim and tire, and also covered inner hub part about 1/2" down.
7. Spray away, both back and front. 3 lighter coats. I also am spraying the entire center cap. My logos are faded.

I just used the Rustoleum paint and primer SATIN black. I have two more of my wheels to go and hope to finish up this weekend. I waited at least two days before mounting and will post pics early this week once all are done and on!

Fronts are done and other spare on rear. Also for anyone looking for a side by side of 255/60/18 and 265/65/18. It is in offroad height with the rods from jacking to switch out the fronts last night.

Hey....have you tried DRIVING in that configuration?

We've all been curious for years about what the LR3 would do if it had a mis-matched tire on...

I have not, just in/out of the driveway to turn around.

I'm curious as well with the AWD and systems if it would go haywire! I did have the donut spare on with my 265/65's for the short trip home without any issues... just scared shitless!
Anyone drive a significant distance with different sizes?

I have, you get a speed sensor fault and get put down to the bumps.

I had a 255/55/18 spare on with 265/65/18 on the other wheels.

That's not good... looks like I may have to get an extra tire.... How far did you travel before you got the error? I may have traveled 10 miles and didn't get any errors.
Thanks for the heads up Trynian!

Had similar failure when testing out one 255/70 R18 with 255/55/ R18. The LR3 was not happy.

Your wheel paint job and tire choice looks Awesome!
